best strain for tincture?

What are the best strains of bud to make alcohol based tincture with? Or does it even matter?

I know the correct method for making good tincture. Just wondering which strains are best for it.

I haven't found a strain that made bad alcohol tincture. Mostly the difference is what the tinctures effects are.

What effects are you hoping to get out of the tincture?

I personally quit smoking from November '08 till 4/20/09. During that time, I used tincture as a substitute. I really enjoyed the results...I used Herijuana the entire time. Very potent, medicinal quality without question. 2ml was more than enough to get extreme medicinal benefits....pain reduction, sleep aide, general dreamy/relaxed carefree feeling (euphoric). Very little after effect / "hangover" when using this method. I have to say, I will do another stint using only tincture again.

On a side note, I think changing the method of consumption from time to time is useful in keeping a lower resistance as well...just my opinion.

no best strain.....frankly trimmings from good bud is the way to go.....but if you use buds.....essentially the tincture will extract the THC (nearly completely from the cannabis) Personally it would be a crime to use dank but essentially the same weight in dank has more THC then the same weight in mersh (Thus 1gram dank in 1 mL/~gram alcohol should give a better effect from more thc then the latter). That being said, many tincture users prefer specific strains for their medicinal benefits....i.e. like a person preferring a sativa-tincture by the bed to help them fall back asleep and an indica in the day time.....Have fun, experiment, enjoy.......and remember that when eaten, the ^9THC actually becomes converted to an unusable form of THC (at least unusable as far as producing a "high" feeling) by the acids, enzymes and so forth that is within our digestive systems and stomach. Most tincture users like to use sub-lingual applications (under the tongue) which allows for immediate absorption into the bloodstream and bypasses the enzymes and the like. Producing the top effect possible...

High, Python. :)

Are you saying that the THC, even though it has been converted to the psychoactive form by heating, is turned into an unusable form when sent through the digestive system? This seems odd to me, as I get the same effects from 1 ml (a dropperful) of dragon (made with this hot method) as I do from smoking/vaping. Headache relief, nice euphoric buzz, etc. I always mix it into a glass of juice or water and drink it. Never sublingual, because dat everclear burnzzz, dude.

Thanks everyone, for your replies. :smoke:

Sorry, Python. I have to use dank, as it is all I have. Can't smoke or vape much anymore. Too uncomfortable. :frown:

Hi Sara!

I like Strawberry Cough for my tincture. I have made it using several other strains as well, but the Cough makes the best medicine.

Best of luck & stay safe!

The delta-9 THC inside of our flowers does not form to a psychoactive form, it already is a psychoactive form initially......heating it simply turns the compound into vapors --- through vaporization by flame......matter is not created or destroyed here but it simply changes states.....that being said, THC as a solid compound can still get u high by eating flowers etc.....as we all know...........but why do people have to eat so much for the same effects as smoking or tincture......because when ingested some converts 9 (i think to delta-11 unactive as far as our needs) within stomach and the digestive system, while some D-9-THC that has not yet been converted takes up into the bloodstream and gives the effect. However, when compared to smoking in which all compound is vaporized and easily taken into the blood through lung mechanisms almost instantaneously (thus bypassing our digestive enzymes etc before it gets to the blood..... ), it is actually less effective...........when taken sub-lingually it also bypasses these enzymes etc....and goes directly to blood stream/brain for an effect in about 15 seconds......

Note: morphine is commonly taken this way when prescribed as a pill ---- UNDER THE TONGUE

Now: I guess I should also say to do whatever that you enjoy most and forget my thoughts.....I have degrees in biology and chemistry with organic synthesis experience --- thus when shit like this comes up it seems logical and interests me....I will admit that i have not personally done my own research on this in a lab but it seems pretty truthful.....since we obviously need so much more than smoking to retain the same results by eating...........and even if you add 1mL to some juice.....it is still eating.....try it sub-lingual and let us KNOW! :yoinks:

what does everyone think about using slightly moldy buds in tincture/extract?
the mold spores themselves cannot survive in alcohol, but what about any toxins the mold may already have produced???? i've always wondered about this.....

I respect your achievements in education. But they are not required for making good medicine, neither are they required for understanding the processes in play here.

It is my understanding that most of the THC on the buds occurs in the form THCA. THCA is [supposedly] not psychoactive. THCA must be converted to THC through decarboxylation. THC doesn't vaporize until you heat it up to around 370 F. Decarboxylation is accomplished at lower temps.

I have made tincture according to the cold method, and according to the hot method. Hot method yields potent tincture for me. Cold method does not. ('Potent' may not be the best word to use here, but arguing semantics is a waste of time. I know that THCA has some value, but it has poor affinity with our cannabinoid receptors, so it doesn't produce any noticeable effect for some of us.)

I am quite knowledgeable about different forms of ingestion of both liquid and solid preparations of other medications. I do not take green dragon sublingually as it is not necessary. Swallowing it in juice or water takes longer to get effect, but it has the same effects on me as smoking or vaping it. I have no desire to take an everclear based tincture sublingually, but please don't let that stop you.

3 grams of bud, <1 gram of trim, and 2 ounces of everclear makes one ounce of tincture (strained) with the recipe I follow. For me, that is 28 doses, and each dose lasts around 4-5 hours.

There is no way I could get 28 doses out of 3.x grams of bud in joints, or a vaporizer. I guess I'm just a miracle of nature. :woohoo:
