Best soil to start with?

Alright im on my first grow n I juz pulled one of my plants cuz brown spots were everywhere at 2.5 weeks old. I was using MG organic soil but now im told thats shitty..even tho its not time released ferts..I've read ocean forest from fox farm is great but not good for seedlings... Which soil do you guys recommend to start with for seedlings?

I've never had a problem with it burning seedlings, in fact I've had damn good germination rates just poppin seeds in it and adding water (no presoak). But if you want to be safe just buy a bag of topsoil, mix in some perlite, and start the seedling in it.

MG is a horrible product IMO. u can try the organics for beginners thread and make your own soil or peat based product for seedlings. i use whitney farms organic soil for my seedlings. another good one is gardners gold. both can be used from beginning to end. good luck with your seedlings.

One way that will work

One way that will work

I always add 30% perlite or Light Warrior to OF. It thins out the soil and also dilutes the strength of the nutes in the OF. You won't burn seedlings in the diluted OF.

Two (1 1/2 cubic ft) bags of OF with one (1 cubic ft) bag of LW will yield 4 cubic ft of soil with a ratio of 75%OF/25%LW. Simple and not that expensive over the long run, if you recycle the soil.

If you stick to FoxFarm for the flower nutes, you won't have PH problems as the soil and ferts are made for each other.

Cheapest, simplest way for a newbie to have a successful organic grow is:
Mix 1 bag of OF with 4-5 gal perlite.
Fill 1 gal container and plant seed (or seedling germed in moist paper towel.)
Use tap water with 1/2 tsp of apple cider vinegar/gal of water, when watering.
Veg about 4-5 weeks. (top once at about 3 weeks & veg about another week) Use the top to make a clone, in case plant is a keeper.

For flower: Mix 2 TBL POM Fruit&Flower 5-8-4 per gal of soil and transplant into 3 gal container.
Do NOT over water. Do not add all the stuff other growers use. Save your potential mistakes for your 2nd grow. KISS! (When all else fails, follow directions.) LOL

There are many other ways that will work. Some are even better than this one- Many Of Them Aren't! Hope this helps. Good Luck!

2/3 promix bx one third coco.A little compost a whole lota prlite a lttle vermiculite some polymer crystals and a whole lotta organic goodies is about the best mix goin.Has Fox Farms stuff beat by a mile.Seedlings thrive clones root out a 16 oz cup in a week doesnt have that lead like consistency after its watered like Ocean Forrest.Just my two cents.
