Best size pot for flowering from clones

Hi again all. First let me say sorry for making so many new posts. I do have experience growing, but this is my first time being in a community this big and I love all the input! I belonged to a different forum before and it was usually just the same 1-2 guys answering.

So my question is, what's a good size pot to use if I plan on rooting clones and then putting them either straight to 12/12, or possibly vegging them for maybe a week. It would basically be like SOG.

I want to give the plants all the space they need so I don't stunt them, but I also want to fit as many plants as possible in my space. Any input would be great!

Thanks.

Guess what lol, you'll have the same two guys answering your questions here also,or maybe one if someone takes a day off lol..A 4 inch standard nursery container is what you want to start you cuts in always,no matter where you plan to go from there. If you flower after only a week the rootball will have not fully grown into the container but this isnt important if going directly to a flowering container without transplants in between.

Hrm... lol. Well I'll post anyways! :) haha

Ok so yea I know to do it in a 4 inch nursery pot at first, but what size pot do I want it in during the actual flowering? In the past for my large plants I have used 5 gal containers but that was with long veg's. I wasn't sure how large I needed to go for 12/12 from clone though?

I veg in 4 inch containers until around 10 inches in height, transplant to 2 gal nursery size(1.6 gallon actual size)(NSI classic 600)and veg until around 30 inches, then I transplant to 3 gal(NSI classic 1200)and veg for a few more days, take cuts, and flower.I've flowerd in 5 gal(NSI classic 2000)and found it to be overkill for the largest indoor plants. The trick is letting the rootball fully grow into the container before transplanting up.I flower 4 ft plants yielding a minimum of a quarter pound, some pheno's yield 6 or 7 oz.

I appreciate the response, but it still doesn't help me know what size pot to flower in when I'll be going straight from clone. Not 30 inches. ;)

my current grow im using 5.5" square pots... my first time growing in them, so i cant tell you results yet (i usually use 3 gallon)... but i should know in about 40 days or so... some of the clones were vegged for 2 weeks... some only for 1... and i also have a couple plants from seed (vegged for 3 weeks)... they have all been flowering for 4 weeks now... no real problems as far as i can see yet... im sure per plant yield will suffer, but i knew that going in (wanted to try more plants total this grow)... you will have to water MUCH more frequently with the smaller pots, which is a huge drawback to me because i hand water... u can check my sig for the grow

you can also check senseless's grow at the following link (check around post #121 for the beginning of the grow w/ small pots).. he grew in the same size containers with a short veg time

hope that helps

Hey Flipz, I do not claim to know anything. Just started this adventure about 6 months ago.
I was gifted 6 clones in Feb. that had been Vegged for two weeks (in 16oz cups) after rooting in Jiffy pucks.
I put straight into 3gal bags. I chopped one 3/15 it had roots all thru the bag, but no way near root bound. Only got 8g Overall height was 16"
A Afgani plant all are.
I chopped another one. 3/26 ht was approx 18" won't know for a short while yet. (Not dry) its roots though had grown quite a lot more than the first plant had shown. No way near root bound though.

Sorry don't mean to make it so long. Just passing along what I experienced, just here real recently.

Ps. I use Floranova Grow & Bloom Nutes w/Floralicious Plus & Diamond nectar.
Promix BX w/added perlite

Unless sativa with a lot of stretch,I'd go from 4 inch to a 1 gal nursery size to flower.I think NSI classic 300 is about .6 gallon.Thats what I'd flower in with a week to ten days of vegEVEN better if you can get the 5.5 sq [pots but those arent as common as 1 gal nursey containers, you'll get more plants with the 5.5

I'm using about four inch black plastic nursery pots. I'm putting seedlings in them (about 2-3 weeks from initial sprout, transplanted in from about a one inch cube of almost root-bound soil.) After transplant I veg them for a week or two and then put them into 12/12. The root ball is still not full formed. They've got 2 months to sit in that little pot of soil, so they've still got room to stretch their feet out.

I wonder in this situation if it's not better to go with a coco/hydro kind of thing, ala HotC. Not sure, but you might have better control over the nutrients from beginning to end.

If you were to pop clones into 4" nursery pots, you would not want to put them immediately into 12/12. I used to transplant and switch at the same time, and the girls were never happy about the double stress. Let them get comfy and then show them what it's like to be a real woman.

I like the juice containers they are rectangle fit close together just cut top 2 inchs off the spout slice holes on bottom and you can fit like 11 in a milk crate keep one with no plant in it to the side water it just like it had something growing in it use it for lifting if its light they all need water so yo keep the girls in the crate. you will get nice 1 to 2 foot colas in each pot . If you dont want to stunt them let them veg longer, 1 week veg will be a stunted plant.

If you are growing SOG style then use 1 or 2 gallon containers to grow in. That will be plenty of space for the roots and the plants won't show any sign of being rootbound. Thats if you flower the clones right away.

I used these to SOG:

I use E&F Tables, so I don't have to worry about underwatering. Clones are veged dependant on stretch.

5 week flowering cut (started @ 6"):

Different cut @ 8 weeks flowering (alos started @ 6")
