I just grabbed a 18k Pioneer from Amazon for $995. The ratings/price were the clincher; seems like a decent unit. I'm going to get everything mounted in position and do the electrical, then have an HVAC guy handle the flares and vacuuming of the lines to make sure it's good to go.
I'll report back here on how it does.
Word. This is what I want to do, have you gotten quotes? It seems hard to find someone that is willing to simply install an already mounted unit. I got one quote at $2200 to INSTALL, and two that said they wouldnt even do it because they reserve the right to profit from the sale of equipment. Not in a legal state here.
I'm a medical grower in Portland and there are a lot of independent HVAC guys here who focus on stuff like this. Guys that you can trust to see your grow. Sometimes grow stores have HVAC guys they can recommend who are trustworthy. Understand, though: Portland is intensely green-frendly. We don't have to hide here anymore. Growers are everywhere. You face challenges that I don't.
I have two friends who have offered up several phone numbers; I haven't had a chance to make any calls yet.
I've heard people say anywhere from $100-200 to just flare, connect copper and vacuum the lines. Honestly, you'd have to be an idiot to turn down $200 for less than an hour's work. Personally I don't care to spend $200 on tools that I will never use again and then hope that I do it right.
The Pioneer install sheet actually offers up a 'practical workaround' method where you buy a can of air-duster from an office supply store and shoot it into the lines instead of vacuum them. It frankly seems pretty half-assed or I'd try it. They have you use duct tape to seal the lines while you do this.
I just hesitate to cut any corners after dropping a grand on the unit and another hundred on dedicated electrical.
Some units claim to be plug and play. Others here might have a brand for you.
I hear you brother. I am finishing off a 2k flower room and am going to be throwing this in there:

It is the only AC that draws such a low amount of power 560w, that I wouldnt have to change my flower room electrical at all.
I also concur, why spend $200+ on tools you will use once, but the biggie is, did I even do it right? Either way I can't have people out twice without scrubbing the room. So. Yeah.
Long live Portland.

Will these still work in the winter? How cold can it get outside and these will still cool a hot room?
