Best economy 1k HPS bulb ?

H

HippyJohnny

I am imagining that I need a 1k bulb.

If money was tight what is the best bulb with the most bang for the buck?

Opinions needed.

Peace:joint:

If money was really tight I'd go with a standard hps bulb, a nice generic 1000w and plan on replacing it with something much nicer after I get the first grow under my belt. You can fin generic 1000w HPS bulbs for as little as $15.

He doesnt have to wait for a legit bulb a standard bulb is just as much a HPS as any fancy one,It works just fine.Iv used them for years.

Eiko bulbs are cheap and half the price of grow shop generics. I use them for 600's and 400's and have never seen a difference in hydro store no names, but I've never used advanced spectrum bulbs or whatever either... I'm not sure if they make them in 1000 watters though, but you should look into them. Keep a spare on hand.

I would really love to see a definitive side by side grow of clones under the top of the line bulbs, the bottom...and maybe a few in between. I've been spending over 100 a bulb for years. When you lose multiple Hortilux bulbs because of Lumatek, it's painful. I've been wondering, given all the hype, if I haven't been paying multiple times what I could have for no good reason... :(

Hey Hippie Johnny,

I flower under 1 kW.

I used the generic brands for a few years.
Recently, I switched to Hortilux.

I've got about 3 or 4 grows under the horti.
I can't tell a difference at all.

And, I understand that the fancy spectrums burn off rather quickly.
As in, months.
Leaving me with an overpriced plain jane?

My next bulb (due soon) is probably going to be a cheapo.
:listen2: I may alternate...just to be sure! LOL

I think the most important thing is keeping a fresh bulb.
My current thinking is that
3 yrs @ 12/12 = max

:2cents:

Heh...mine tend to fail in 6 months, but I use them 24/7. I'm seriously considering trying a cheap 600...a really cheap one. Any recommendations? It's very odd I never find a single comparison grow...you'd think there would be dozens, considering the cost savings implications and people's tendencies to experiment with every variable.

a bulb is a bulb, if you've got every other important variable locked in and you need some extra lumen output spring for a great bulb but generic works fine.

I get bulbs at my local shop. that way if/when they go bad I can have them replaced the same day. Same with ballasts.

I use magnetics man. I see the bulbs being advertised with Lumateks and Galaxies though, so it looks like the grow scene caught on to them since the last time I bought my case. Hard to beat the price, that's for damn sure. Hope they work out for you if you get them.
