Best and most quiet 8 inch inline fan

I'm installing a fan and carbon scrubber, venting dual Sun Systems II hoods.

There seems to be a wide variation in quality, I was hoping to buy online, so returns are a slow burn I try to avoid.

Fantech

Vortex

Any other?
All these are in the $200-$250 range. While cost is important, long life and quiet operation are worth the investment.

Those are all great options.

Just go with whatever has the highest cfm and get a speed control to throttle it down

And... I know I'll get a rack of ish for this, but the ecoplus 8" is the only decent fan they make and it is considerably cheaper than those alternatives you mentioned.

I'm presently using:

1- 8" vortex 747 cfm for my carbon filter w/ speed control

1- 8" vortex 747 cfm for light cooling (4000w) w/muffler and speed control

1- 4" vortex for room to room exchanges

so far so good, great blowers! Just remember your duct work configuration can increase noise.

I have an 8" and 4" Vortex and I can say they are mechanically very quiet; massive amounts of air being moved will be an issue with any fan, but the Vortex fans are very high quality.

Man... plantlightinghydroponics has the best prices on so much stuff. I wish I had known about them a while ago.

Yeah i had been eyeing them for some time thinking i was gonna save alot of $$ but recently found out from a few peeps that their orders weren't stealth shipped as they were suppose to be !

:nono: I have to have stealth shipping in my state !

Mdhydro & a few others (that ship stealthly) seem to be the next cheapest to plantlightinghydro...

Peace :smoker:
They wrapped my T5 in a plain brown box with nothing on the outside except an address. They bill under a different name and they ship quickly.

I have a 6" Vortex and went with the brand because of the same concerns as you, but also the 10 year warranty kinda spoke a little for itself as well. I've been told by multiple sources in the past that the Can-Fan models (along with EcoPlus) were among the loudest in the inline centrifugal category, so I've always stayed away simply based on that word.

well i can drop a little info on this. I have used an 8 inch vortex a 4inch vortex(currently) and a 4 inch eco plus and without a doubt go with a vortex. the overall vibration is way less in the vortex. in my experience with eco plus it would always hum if you dialed the speed down.

In mytime growing i think ive bought just about everything twice....and what i learned was pay the little extra and get the good equipment when it comes to your environment. environment is one of the all important factors.

Is anybody out there using the new Vortex low power fans? The 6" is rated at 275 cfm/vs 449, the 8" at 600 cfm/vs 747 and the 12" at 900 cfm/vs 1140 & 2050 cfm.
I'd love to hear a user report.

You can get a speed controller from Harbor Freight for something like $20 + shipping. I guess they just raised their prices because I seem to remember paying something like $15 delivered. I guess demand has increased with all the growers snatching them up.

It's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. You have to future-proof that growroom if you wanna stay ahead of the game.

I just returned a Can-(max)fan 8" to my store.
It was just TOO DAMN LOUD!
Vortex is much quieter.

try the s and p fan,the new sunleaves fan,or the can max fans(although they might be too big).

I was under the impression that a centrifugal fan would be both more powerful, quiter and more reliable than a standard fan (vortex). Is this not correct? I'm looking for loud, quiet, reliable as well.

Peace,

Sorry, no $20 cheeseball speed controllers for this dirt farmer - a Variac or nuttin'

Looks like the "cheeseball" Harbor Freight speed controller can handle 3x the amperage of your Variac, and at half the price. Any info on just why the Variac is superior?.... besides that slick little analog indicator?
