whats up mr. bubbler guys?? i'm lookin to start up some dwc buckets and wondering what are the best pumps out their....not neccesarily the most powerful but just best all around pump, considering price, noise, watts, ect.

i'd be lookin to do 4-6 5 gallon buckets and would like 1 nice pump to run all of them...i'd also want 2 stones in each bucket so a nice pump that can run 8-12 stones properly is what i'm lookin for.

peace

they may not be the "best quality" pumps on the market, but i use "top-fin" pumps from petsmart. reason being is that they have a lifetime guarentee, no questions asked.

it's just like returning a broken tool to sears.

This could easily run 12 stones i have 8 runnning off it now

made by haliea and its 55 watts but it is noisy, i have mine suspended from a bungie...peace

Single pump eh... That would be cool, Im using a bunch of the $9.99 Wally Mart ones and they work fine. Im curious as to what else we see here... We want quiet too...

Dr D , how loud , how far away can you hear hummmmm..

General hydroponics makes a dual diaphram pump with four outlets, and claim they can run eight buckets with no problem. I run one pump per two buckets, I like the large bubbles (eveen though people say smaller bubbles are best.....I have good results with larger bubbles over smaller bubbles. Plus my airstones are a lil different, and require a lil more strenght.

DR. D, that pump is a beast.....where can we get a few? Do you know the specs?

If you have a recirculating system, you might want to look into using a small water pump and creating a "floom" in a resevoir. I use a 60GPH pump for a floom and a Power Sweep 212 with it's Venturi in a 50gal aquarium with a dozen fish and a few aquatic plants and the DO level never drops below 9ppm @ 70F (sometimes gets as high as 13 at night in winter when the water gets into the low 60s) and it's almost completly silent.

Another idea is what a friend of mine uses in his tanks, he uses a higher powered (about 600GPM I believe) water pump and pumps water up slightly above the tank and back down through 2 shower heads using a T which shoots numerous streams of water down back into the tank. It's a bit noisier but still much quieter and far less obtrusive then a compressor or high powered diaphram pump and he too has DO levels that steadily stay near saturation.
