Benefits of Vertical Growing

What are your room temps like? You'd be much happier in the end without that cooltube....if the room will allow it. 400's don't give off much heat.

i think me and you, we're the anti-cool tube crew lol , i came in here just to say that but you beat me to it ahahha

cheers bro

Yes I bought a commonly seen black fan to be placed on the floor under the barebulb, but the temps. in my tent growing horizontally have been too hot to consider barebulb in vert.:yappy:

Besides I wanted a very compact and silent Activated carbon+cooltube-system that I can run in the summer without worrying about heat.:yappy:
Here's the thing with bulb pointing down like all real vertgrowers put it :tiphat::sumo:

if you put the filter and fan up top to draw out hot air and had you intake on bottom the temps should stay inline... what is ambient...

i have 4k in a 7.5x12.5x7 foot room. roughly 500 cubic feet and i keep my temps below 80 no ac with a 6 inch vortex...

Wow all very interesting stuff. Making me wish I never spent thousands of dollars on hoods, fans & insulated ducting.

Someone said on here that the backside of the plant is all in shade, I would assume that could be easily remedied with good pruning and training.

What are the merits of using horizontal lighting in conjunction with vertical lighting? For instance, in my case the money has been spent... I'm using the hugE expensive hoods I paid for, but for Addditional lighting I may buy, it seems like it would be beneficial to hang 600s vertically between rows, close to the side branches.

In theory if u can keep your canopyunder horizontal light, and drop 600s vertically around th lower normally shaded branches, couldn't u get a bush with canopy size colas all around?

I know what you mean about summer temps. I usually don't try to flower in the summer. Way too hot for me.

In that case, the cooltube is definitely necessary.

Hahaha!

I'm about to update my thread with some new bare bulb vert bud porn!

Yeah mate, although it is fun to adjust and move the growgear while growing and in between,
I still wanted a compact system that I only have to maintain by switching the bulb when flowering.
Besides I had already paid for all the growing gear..
When I get a bigger room compared to my 1sqm tent, I will def go bare bulb. :)

Oh Btw, I testdrove the new MH bulb and it seems it runs hotter than the usual HPS bulb, is this true? namely it radiated more heat..

Yes MH bulbs do put out more radiated heat than an HPS does....My 400w MH was actually hotter than my 600W HPS at the same distance to the bulb when I had them going side by side...

Hmmmm, I haven't started my grow yet but a thing came to my mind as I thought about my setup. Right now the heat from the bulb is going thru my exhaust fan complex, wonder if it cud cause heats that damage the fan's interiors?

Hey bro, your fan will have a heat rating on it's Label where the voltage and amperage ratings are listed. Now I got to check mine...LOL I haven't started anything either because I may be working out of town soon.

That is 1 reason I always try to push air instead of pulling, but if your fan is moving enough air, temps won't get that hot inside..

You're not supposed to push air through the activated carbon is what I've heard. I've always sucked air through the filter although this time my fan is placed behind the cooltube sucking in the heated air instead of in front of it.

I suck through the filter, blow through the lights :tiphat:

Edit: Wow, taken outta context, that sounds SO wrong lol!

Yes Inco thats the way I've done it always.
Guys I decided to go barebulb.
Reason: If I place the filter on the floorlevel sucking all the cool air inside the tube, then no cool air will ever be able to rise to the top and cool the whole tent.
Instead placing filter+fan+exhaust pipes in the top of my tent as always before, but with barebulbs baby!!

Wait...if your filter is on the floor isn't it pointing up? If so then the cool air IS being pushed up... but it's best to put filters as high as possible, heat and smells rise... fyi, cool air never rises, it falls, heat rises..:tiphat:

Yes I know heat rises and cold falls, I saw someone have a system with the filter on the floor sucking all cool air in the pipes and tube and being exhausted in the roofhole. Had to give it a try, but the heat surrounding the plants is too high cuz all cool air is getting shot out of the tent thru the filter and pipes.

New system:

Hey Suspect I know what the problem is...you forgot to put some plants in there! Haah haah...corny I know, but good luck with your grow.

I would stick to bare bulb with that fan underneath it, and your exhaust sucking through the filter up high. That set up has always worked for me.

In my old grow room I had a false floor with an intake directly under the floor fan which helped a lot with the temps at the canopy with a 600...but even without that you should be good at plant level without a cool tube as long as that fan is blowing up.

I'm making my final adjustments here, propagation day and all!

-Exhaust-duct aimed at roofventilation hole (not attached)
-Ballast moved outside tent
-Opened more fresh air intake holes
