Belize

Hey folks.

Anyone from Belize or have some first hand knowledge of the country?

We are planning a visit there to see if we want to relocate there.

Thanks all.

They speak english , there are lots of Canadian Mennonites there, weed is plentiful, birding is awesome. The cities are bleak and scary. But not as bad as LA or Miami.

Yeah, nice place. Banana cake and jerk chicken mon! But in my experience, the locals like to drink a lot and things get a little wild. Weed is easy to find.

Good for a visit. Check out Quay Caulker for a tourist infested but sweet island.

i was in Belize a couple years ago and i scored weed rite away within the first five minutes i got there it wasn't up to Canadian standards but it did get you high.... i am not into blow but a friend got some and he said it was the best he has ever had...... most ppl seemed nice but alot seem really shady so stay safe..... be careful and use your head and you should be ok...

I'm not sure about the weed scene, I'm sure it's plentiful, lots of military and police around probably looking to get a bribe for busting you smoking up, so be careful haha.
When I was last there my first stop was in Dangriga, they were about to have an election the next morning and you could feel the tension in the air, it didn't help that I was probably the only white person there.
I had no fucking clue about the election because I had just spent the the last few months in Guatemala haha. Anyways, a cop stopped and told me that I should just get some food, go back to my hotel and lock the door and not come out at night. I decided to leave early the next before the election and on the way to the bus station I walked past a bunch of different groupls of people who just stared me down and called me whitey, honkey, all kinds of stuff. Looking back I can laugh about it but at the time I was pretty freaked out.

I've also visited Caye Caulker (which was nice but really touristy) and also San Ignacio (not so nice) and just never really liked the vibe down there, you should think about some parts of Mexico to relocate to, there's some really chill and amazing places that I'd pick over Belize any day.
