I was reading on another forum about using beer as a soil supplement similiar to molasses? Anyone ever tried this?

I have been using stale Grolsch in both veg and flower. And I like the smell now....sort of.

No problems with the compost pile.

I have the impression it could kick the microbes into high and the soil temps could rise and that would be bad for the plants.

I would caution on using it in a grow. Yet there are posts that say thumbs up.

So since I never have applied it during a grow I can't say.

Beer is mainly enzymes, so if it doesn't do any good, it won't harm either. :)

call me a nut, but I've even measured the pH of my beer.
I think it was ~4.2.
You know you've got the growing bug bad when you're considering adding pH up to your beer for your soil. :)

there is an 80 yr old man in my area, every year he grows the biggest, brightest, and best tasting tomatoes, everyone tries growing tomatoes like him but no one does, we got to talking about his growing styles and he told me his secret is each plant gets 1 can of beer a week.

beer is an oldschool gardening trick, beer and a coke mixed with some molasses is a pretty darn good plant food. if you have a bug problem add a couple drops of dish soap and some chewing tobacco dripping and it becomes an effective way to get rid of pests.

we threw a halloween party a couple weeks ago and the popo broke it up so we had a pony keg of organic microbrew about 3/4 full left over. i don't drink beer so i poured most of it on my compost pile to work its magic.

Mmmmm.... yummy veggies next year!
