Bears are scavangers, if you use anything that smells like food, they will dig it up. That is particulary true in the Spring, they are very hungry after a Winters hibernation, and will eat nearly anything.
What smells like food? Blood meal and fish meal are the worst. Kitchen compost is nearly as bad, there will alwasy be uncomposted pieces that smell of rotten fruit.
Commercial composted manure should be least attractive. Even bears know, you can't eat sh*t. My garden center sells bags rated at 1-1-0.5.
you could try putting other stuff that is good for bears around your grow, so once its done with those, it'll go away. Even though the roots will smell, the leftover smell from the other stuff will still linger. the bear should associate that smell with the same stuff, and disregard it.
