BC Grapefruit

G

Guest 224837

Anyone from BC remember that old grapefruit bud going around in the mid-late 90s? Lots of imitators came in later, but the original was so lime green frosty and smelled like fresh cut citrus.

My buddy used to get pounds of it, and it always smelled so sweet and tasted so good.

I'd love to get my hands on some seeds from this strain if anyone knows where to get them.

thanks

Okay are you guys seriously posting these threads just so I can come answer in them?

Spice of Life Sweet Tooth, hands down that is exactly what you want.

Sweet Tooth #4, or Sweet Tooth #3 is mostly SPG, or "Sweet Pink Grapefruit" in seed form and comes from the same cut as BC Grapefruit. (SPG) In the mid 90's it was originally a hybrid with DJ Short's BB but was continually crossed back to the SPG cut to concentrate the Grapefruit traits & aroma. Steve was obsessed with the SPG and used it in almost all of his strains. It really is one of the super elite's of the Cannabis community. :canabis:

Chimera has a 50/50 hybrid of SPG with Blueberry also that is called GF x BB. :)

All worth checking out if you are looking for the frosty sweet citrus! Keep it Grapefruity! :joint:

Island Sweet Skunk is also the Sweet Pink Grapefruit X Big Skunk#1, and the Blockhead is Sweet Tooth X unknown hybrid. ISS in the background, Blockhead in the foreground.

I know you want the real Grapefruit - for nostalgic reasons - but these crosses are way up there and probably easier to get a hold of than a rarely heard of clone only,

What breeder is working with the Grapefruit nowadays?

Yea sweetest sativa is the shit! Bad ass yields and the grapefruit comes out good. Reeks after 3 weeks in the jar...unkillable smell on some phenos.

I've had the dynamite for a few weeks now and I've been tossing up which of my beans to grow out next run. These are definitely getting a run now, next to some Icecream and maybe some Femaleseeds Grapefruit just so I can have some grapefruit for breakfast and some grapefruit for dinner, and desert and supper. I'll probably feel like a midnight snack now and again too so hhhmmmm, what to have... ok, grapefruit. Of all the fruit flavours I have experienced in bud I'd have to put grapefruit at the top along with blackberry/blueberry and strawberry although I'm yet to have a really nice strawberry experience. That's it! StrwaberryDiesel IX as well next grow, that would really be a nice selection of jar fillers...

For the record, I believe ISS or "Island Sweet Skunk" is SOL Sweet Skunk (clone only) x White Widow male not SPG x Big Skunk #1 ;)

Sometimes the Island Sweet Skunk vs. Sweet Skunk get's confusing because of the similiar names we have had tons of threads about it. It does get a bit mind boggling :joint:

The breeder here named Hortilab (who won Cannabis Cup twice with Starbud) claims to be releasing some SPG S1's eventually so that would be very nice! :good:

Keep it Grapefruity! :)

Yes the real deal Breeder Steve Sweet Pink Grapefruit is out there still. I hold the cut and know a few others. Good luck with seed. Peeps have been trying since Mikado and talk is cheap. Peace GS

I was under the impression that Sweet Skunk (BC) was Grapefruit x NL#5 / Haze.

A nice "accidental pollination" that occurred while the breeder wasn't looking... LOL

That may very well be true yes but the point is ISS and Sweet Skunk are different strains and they almost always get misused by many people describing one or the other..that is where the confusion starts since they are both from Canada and the same timeframe.

SOL Sweet Skunk is clone only or by S1's, and ISS is a strain in seed form that partially used the Sweet Skunk clone from a different company. I have always believed Sweet Skunk was half SPG as well but Chimera has said he tested it for SPG markers and it did not have any so now I'm not sure what to think about that even though I know it's very citrus and grapefruity it's all kind of an unknown now much like where SPG came from to begin with genetically speaking. :joint:

thanks for the input guys.

I grew some next generation stuff last year and wasn't really impressed. I also grew the Sweet Tooth #3 in 2004 and we didn't keep any of the plants the pot was only OK and the mothers kept preflowering which really killed our yields and made clones a real bitch.

All of these suggestions are inbreds from the original originals but I'm not looking for something that is many generations removed from the mother. I want seeds that came from the original grapefruit cutting not somebody's impression of what they think the original is like.

chimeras gfXbb sounds good to bad it's %50 blueberry I wanted something more pure. Does anyone know if the seeds came from a grapefruit plant or what?

The Grapefruit is SPG, the closest thing genetically is Sweet Tooth #3 or #4 and you are not the only person I have heard from regarding weak results with the Next Generation stuff, someone else on here had a thread about the Next Gen Dynamite and it was all fluffy and weak smoke if I recall correctly and it's not pure SPG by any means it was outcrossed and I think poorly at that.

Chimera used the genuine real deal SPG and made that GF x BB cross for SOL it used to be sold as SWT 1.1 which was a redux of the original and is a few years old now. You can grow that and get very GF dominant plants but F2's of it would be best to search for something closest to pure SPG. Sweet Tooth #4 IBL does not suffer from the same constant rootbound autflowering issues the Swt #3 was subject to because it had pollen input twice from the Swt BX2 P1 male that parented other strains and it was quite a potent pollen donor as evidenced by it's progency like LUI & Blockhead. That is really the big difference between the Swt #3 and #4 along with the fact that the #4 was inbred from the earlier generation of Swt and selected for earlier flowering outside and mold resistance which was the other problem with the #3. The point of this all is going in the direction that SPG or as you call it the "BC Grapefruit" is a clone only strain, any seeds from it other than S1's are going to contain genes from something else and it would need to be backcrossed several times to make it more pure which is exactly what Sweet Tooth is :joint:

Only about half of the current Swt #4 IBL I worked with for 5 generations now are rootbound sensitive BUT that trait comes from the SPG / BC Grapefruit so anything with the REAL Grapefruit in it or SPG is going to have those issues it is pretty much consistent with this cultivar and very well known to those who grow her. The SPG clone does it too which is why many people who used to have her don't anymore sadly if they did not know how to manage the rootbound issues properly. Now we have smartpots and they really go a long way as far as preventing the autoflowering, and 24 hours veg cycles, extra N and even some superthrive in the water can prevent this from happening. In a worse case scenario it may require a root prune on old mothers and you can always grow out new clones they will root even when preflowering heavily. :canabis:

Trust me man this is like almost the only thing I grow ;)

Cindy 99 has very Grapefruity phenos too but it's a totally different type of buzz and completely different genetics but they also don't autoflower when rootbound. Much love. :tiphat:
