Battling the initial soil setup.

Ran living organics for a decade now, but always had amazing cooked dirt from my old property to work with.

What a breeze it was back then, every pot had worms, top covers going non stop, any top feeding was gone in days.

Right now battling setting up my soil again, and having a bit of a P issue.

I got mocha bat guano on hand but I know my stuff is already peak N levels and have had a bit of clawing already.

As for what my main mix is, who knows the exact ratio of what and I forget now whats in it. But all the base ingredients ive used in the past, various amounts.

What is something I can use thats semi fast breakdown as a top dressing or even dare i say it, (bottled). Trying to stay away from buying water as much as I can so avoiding everything but some cal-mag and some big bloom as I always loved the stuff.

Sorry if this was a ramble, mid work right now.

Bone meal is good organic phosphorus. Bone meal is potent though so be careful not to go overboard. Help it break down by using azos and mykos and a tea spoon of black strap molasses to a gallon of water.

Right on hash, il grab some tomorrow. Top dress or make a tea with some in it? Usually my goto would be the mocha bat guano, but that is when my dirt is seasoned and could use a little N. Right now the stuff is too fresh and I know is loaded with N needing to be used.

Hi Cody,
Not sure if this will help but check out Korean Natural Farming and for your situation, how to make phosphorus from chared bone. This is plant available and can be used as a foliar or water additive fertiliser. There's also a lot of other fertilisers and tonics that can be made from local materials.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
40.

No better plants to grow in the garden than comfrey and nettle. Besides the readily accessible nutrients, they provide biodiversity and fodder for a host of beneficial insects. Look for the sterile bocking varieties when you do decide to plant on your property. The roots do go deep but much debate has been done on it being a dynamic accumulator.

Comfrey is the first thing I suggest as the nutrients are readily available and will more often than not show improved plant health.

How do you know you have a P issue ?

have you considered low in Calcium?

If you like bat guano you can get high phosphorus bat guano from fruit eating bats. Also Peruvian seabird guano is good stuff and can be mixed with water.

I mulched my outdoors plants all year with comfrey and had very dense buds, much denser than normal which I believe was from the potassium.

Reddening a bit on the petiole, kinda a lime green hue to the plants a bit and overall a bit lethargic looking. I always equate that to P. K is the thermal regulator in my mind, helps speed up or cool down cellular stuff, it isnt that. C it really could be, I know I am a bit low on available C as the dirt is very new. But C issues to me usually are more apparent in other ways, this looks very P like to me, I will learn how to get pictures up soon.

You make me miss my old property...So much comfrey and nettle on it. Forgot totally to plant some on this one, springtime it will be planted.

In the mean time....should I get some started now from seed for spring? Or just grab a bunch at a nursury come planting season.

Hey rico, I have been battling Cal and Mag issues also...

Not sure how to get ahead of it right now, i damn took my old soil for granted. I had alot of time to set it up then, this time around wasnt so much like that.

I will work on getting pictures up but, I watered today with a slightly higher dose of calmag than normal, i think I need to go higher though.

Whats a good topdressing for cal mag? I thing I have magnesium sulfate or something for the mag but, that shit seems scarey to use.

So I watered yesterday with what I thought would be a 1.5x strength dose of the cal mag I have on hand. 18 hours later not really improving much. Not sure how to progress from this point, I can give it 2-3 days to dry out and water again but the plants will really not be happy by then I believe. Maybe a foliar? Any organic gurus that could chime in would be great.

Cheers all.

Now I have been having some cal mag issues the whole life of the plants, but they did get better for a solid 2 weeks, I am just not sure why they are demanding so much, my soil is not "alive" yet by any means

Its only 1.5 months old at this point total. Its clear as day Cal right there, just not sure how to go about handling it as I thought I did 1.5x yesterday but it wasnt enough.
