Battle of the Blueberries.

This year I am tackling a few different Blueberries from a few different sources. I'll be growing out a bunch from established clones and even more from seed. I'll be growing from a couple packs of DJ's BB seedline, a pack from BCGA, some DP "F2s", hell I might even toss in some of TRC's hyped to hell "Blueberry F4", "Super Blueberry", "Blue Bonnet", what ever it is called these days. I've also got loads of Blue Moonshine seeds which I may choose to include in this thread, I'm not sure yet.

So, right now after that introduction, I've only got two different BBs going in the flower box. Both are from cuttings that I've been sitting on for almost a year. One is a BC area clone that has been making the rounds for about 15 years, the other is a DJ Short cutting that I'm pretty sure is also 15 years old. You can bet that the Dabney cut will be making it into this thread before all is said and done as well. ;)

First up is the BC BB cut, she has trichs galore and smells like Grape Crush, grape soda. Me like so far.

Here is the DJ cut which is one of my favorite looking plants in the garden. The blueberry smell is just starting to come through now, I would describe it as a soft sort of blueberry smell with a little Afghan bite.

Both plants are 41 days into 12/12.

If anybody has any experience or pictures to share feel free. I'd like to keep this thread to pure BB genetics and no crosses... which is why I'll probably keep the Blue Moonshine out of it.

Wow those are frosty as hell mate.

all i remember is my old man had a clone out doors years ago that was supposedly blueberry that totaly rocked every ones asses off. flavor and potency to spare.

yeilded something like three elbows also..

best,

:lurk: this is gonna be interesting...

Well they look pretty similar, and a lot better than the DP BB I just finished and tossed. You got some super healthy growth there too, cant wait to see what comes out of this thread, I love BB tastin buds. Lookin forward to the comparisons of all the cuts and beans you got, great thread.

Great thread kheph, I cant wat to see it progress. Technically you could use the blue moonshines as well since they are just f4 or f5 blueberry genes, but I think you have enough blue to go around already. Best of luck

great thread kheph, I look forward to the project..

I look forward to your take on the BC BB, as you are the 1st person to grow it outside of BC as far as I'm aware of.. It indeed has been around for a long while.. I friend of mine grew it for about a decade as his staple mersh cut, altho i do think there's better.. One thing nice about that cut is that there's virtualy no need for odor control if that's the only plant u are growing.. as you said, it smells like straight up grape bubblegum/soda, blatantly and obviously... I ran it a few times, and it's a nice consistant plant, and one of the best resin producers i've grown.. Her trichomes do take a good while to amber up, she looks done much earlier.. the buds will be light green and dense as hell.. I hope the smell carries thru for u, i grew her in chems, and u grow organic, so it should be much nicer.

The DJBB is another one, around for at least a decade or more in the area.. She is the textbook BB afghan, with the prettiest fan leaves i've ever seen, it's like a ruffled flower, very cool, very unique.. I have only had underlit outdoor grown samples but it was an excellent tasting smoke with a great balanced high.. The bubble hash i smoked from this cut was excellent.. It one of the only mums i've ever lost, i think i pruned too much off the mum and overfed her, and she kicked the bucket.. I'll definately have to get her back for a run, i love afghans, and this has alot of afghani goodness in her. :yummy:

I got some old pics of the BCBB at about 5 weeks:

what i wouldn't do for some nice BB buds right about now. i got a mom of some SAGMARTHA BB(year 2000). the buz is real nice, but the blueberry smell/taste is kinda week. i had a lifesaver that smelled/tasted just like some blueberry muffins, maybe a cross is needed. anyways heres a pick of the BB right before i chopped her

stay safe,,,,,,,,,,,,,dwtc

Thanks for the comments everybody. This is going to be my first serious project I guess you can say...

You can't really tell from the pics I guess but actually they look quite different to my eye. The BC cut has thinner leaves of a different shape and the bud structure of both are completely different. beancounter hit the nail on the head when he says the DJ cut has ruffled leaves, that is the perfect description for them.

Grape soda was the first thing that came to my mind. I asked Ain what she thought it smelled like without giving my opinion first and she said the same thing.

Also, this round I'm not doing organics (even though I don't thing PBP is pure organic), I'm using Hesi coco ferts which are chems all the way. I just wanted to try something different and a bit less complicated. I have 2 plants in the box with my old nutes to see what kind of difference there is if any.

No worries on that front, you'll get her back, maybe with a couple of different blues to test as well. :joint:

Yeah, thats why I was thinking of putting them in there. I guess I should as its all the same genes but crossed different... but then technically I can put Flo in here too... I guess. :) I've only sampled one Blue Moonshine it wasn't berry but it was magnificant.

The BCGA Blueberry that I'll be doing in this thread are based on Sag genes, which are based on DJ's. I just thought I'd throw that info in there. Blueberry muffins is part of what I'm looking for but I'm keeping it to straight Blueberry genes to find the Blueberries. The idea is to make my own crosses after I find what I'm looking for. Expect this to be a never ending thread just about cause I've got a hell of a lot of different Blueberry seeds. :yummy:

Now be prepared to be blown away by the size of these colas!! Here is my (actually my wife's find), #1 cutting, the monstrous Blue Heaven. There is no doubt about the Blueberry scents in this one, but this is more like sweet Blueberry taffy.

This cut seems to get purple calyxes no matter what the temp is. Topping really isn't the ideal way to grow her if you want any sort of cola. As you can see, there is no cola. She is only in a 6 inch square pot, but I don't think that really makes a difference.

As you can tell she isn't my favorite do to her yield. :sasmokin:

I've always heard the same. I've got the Blue 13 to run for the fun of it and I'm trying to source some of the straight BBs for this project. I've had dissagreements with lonestar in the past about some of the marketing, IMO, BS, but I never knocked his gear.

The largest seed pool I have are the Blue Moonshine seeds. I've got DJ F1 and F2, DP F2 and F3, so I know i'm bound to find a keeper or 10. The most valuable IMO are the 7 Blue Heaven F2s, but we also have a few that are mixed up which are BH F2, Blue Velvet F2 and BV X BH and BH X BV but all of those seeds are mixed up. Its going to be a fun year+.

Thanks for the input Raco.

kheph, do you know the background of the dabney? Is this a norcal or oregon clone only. I have heard that the genes are completely different from the DJBB. Any info that you could give would be appreciated. I would love to get that cut someday. Do you know if any of the cali clubs carry that clone?

Here are some dabney pics from the elite-clone only thread in the flower pics forum. These are from hieagle420

As far as I know dabney is the same as the Oregon '85 Blueberry cut. I have been searching for info on lineage and such for quite some time, but I havent really found any concrete facts thus far.

in the next few months, ill have a Dabney to bump against OlBlue. run um side by side and see whats the real deal on these two plants.

IMO there not the same plant lookin at Hieagles grow. but as we all known different OPs can make a plant look different. Dabney looks a bit more sativa to me, and the bud is pointier, as Blues Buds are wide rounded buds an yields really big, i havent seen the Dab cut yield like Blue can.

but ill see for myself, if there the same or not.

I personally believe that Dabney is a product of DJ Short, a very early representation of his work. There is some lot of speculation out there about whether or not DJ actually created the Blueberry line or not, I don't know why this is but it is. DJ has been working on the line since the 70's, I'll let people make up their own minds.

I'm too far from Cali to know about any of the clubs.

Cedarberry, I'd really like to read your comparison results. They do look kinda different to me as well.

I'm going to pop some Blue Moonshines soon, the first of which will be DJ's originals... I'm thinking that somebody's Ol' Blue X JC BX1 need a popin soon as well. So, I'll keep this thread open for any and all Blueberries and crosses but will limit myself to playing hack only with the pure lines. :joint:

Okay, so here I am at day 49. I ditched the BC BB cut, she smells too much like grape soda for my taste. The vape is very nice but I've got too many moms as is and need to keep some sort of focus so she had to go. I'll prolly kick myself in the ass later but thems the breaks.

BC Berry

The DJ cut on the other hand is making the grade thus far. AF and I vaped some yesterday, she said it was Blueberry before I even told her, describing the taste as blueberry poptarts, I tend to agreee. I'm really loving this cut and can't wait for her to finish.

Now some puny Blue Heaven. I really blew it for decent nugs this time around, thems also the breaks. Love the smell though. :yummy: She starts getting flushed this weekend.

FWIW, I've got enough Blue Moonshine that I'll be culling all mutants that pop up and will be making open pollination style seeds between all the keepers that I'm pretty sure I'll find.
