Barneys and Their Strains

I broke down and ordered up some Violator Kush and some Pineapple Chunk from Barneys. I was wondering what the thoughts of others were concerning the company and their strains??

Several strains claim cup wins and High times seems to like the company: They do own a bunch of coffeeshops where their product is smoked dont they?: what do growers think?

Hey Dawg, good questions, as I was there a while back when made my first purchase. I ran, and looked, and looked, seems like for every good thing you can find bout a bank, there will be someone who says other wise.

So I heard good bout barneys, and they have the killer indicas that hit like I like from the listings, so I got nightshade, and so far, its a great pick. I am no professional tho, looking for every genetic issue, but the one I got does its job thats for sur, and plan on making more buys from them in near future, exspecially Mapleleaf, its going to be had to get soon, and its a keeper just from how it was saved from death and smuggled out, I like those strains, you can never go wrong.

Most like dutch genetics, as I do as well, but barneys is just as good, I mean they won so awards, so you can always trust in high times they have the floor when it comes to anything of mj. Good luck bro, hope you get a sweet lady, or hareem of girls!

I love barneys however I would stop buying strains based off of cup wins and go more off of personal referrals from other growers as well as actual personal growing experience with specific strains.

He said she said with strains and breeders leads to a ton of lies, myths and long drawn out stories as to how some breeders are shady and others are the only ones who can be called real breeders.

Don't buy into the hype BUT certain strains get hype from real world experience whereas most get it from HYPE from forums like this place and others.

I've had experience with two Barney's strains.

I've been running Pineapple chunk for about a year now. Very sticky, tasty, a huge giver of hash, mold resistant and a FUCKING HOME RUN! LOVE IT, best in my stable at this point.

She like to stretch big time in flower. I keep my nutes on the mid to low side....she finishes very quickly in around 8 wks.

I also had some of there Vanilla Kush, very flavorful, reasonably sticky and finished in about 8 wks also.
But , IN MY SYSTEM , WITH MY EXPERIENCE LEVEL AT THE TIME it kept going hermi. Never able to get her ( or it) under control I axed her after finding a bean in some Cole Train I was running at the the time.

Yes you are right, expirence, does count more than the cup winning, maybe using both would work as some growers aint that great at growing, so like I said, its a toss up, you ultimately hold the key, smart thing would be get multipal seeds from multipal banks, spending the least you can, and testing all of them, and coming up with what you feel is best!

For example my bro came over, and saw my cab, and was in happy mode, but nothing was finished to toke on, he was bummed, that was until he saw a plant I was trying to reveg in the compost bin as it had died a couple days ago, with a month of trying to get her back. He goes and takes the bud off, and smokes it, I was like dude no, all kinds of bad, his reply was dam that was dank, that hit got me ripped! So you see some ppl have low standards just wanting the hi! lol

Myself and another friend have grown out Barney's LSD and it is a solid resinous strain! Great Lemon flavor and the high is outstanding.

poppin' outta control
I have done Honey B, Red Diesel, Laughing Buddha, Utopia Haze, Vanilla Kush, Violator Kush and LSD all by barneys..

Honey B I had 3 pheno's and 1 pheno turned out to be amazing. Smelled and tasted exactly like the infamous durban clone, and had a huge yield... Was a favorite by patients in 2009

Red Diesel was disappointing.. Bud quality was good but 0% diesel.. 8/10 for smell, appearance, taste, and high

Laughing Buddha was 9/10 for smell and taste, 8/10 for trich production, 8.5/10 overall.. While very unique, all pheno's were very very sensitive.. Easiest crop out of 20 strains I was growing at the time to nute burn..

Utopia haze was again unique, but nothing to brag about. Took forever to grow, very light sensitive, smell and taste were ok.. the high was def sativa (ill give them that) and pretty clearheaded

Vanilla Kush is the best connoisseur quality Barneys strain I have done.. It had a overwhelming smell of Vanilla concentrate / REAL VANILLA, with undertones of kush. Taste was a 10, trich production = 9, smell was amazing, super super potent..

Violator Kush was nothing special.. Did not move quickly w/ the patients

LSD - amazing smell of greenapple, and trich production was a 10, but yield was extreamly low.. I later popped more seeds of LSD and found some higher yielders..

So overall I give Barneys a 7.5/10.. These days I ditched every barneys strain I had and do not look back. Barneys was fun but nothing elite. I think that there are several companies on SB that charge the same price as barneys, but every pheno of every strain will be 10/10.. Now I only do elite clone only's, grindhouse and connoisseur genetics (and the occasional dutchgrown)

As far as the awards go, supposedly those awards are more political then one could imagine, so dont pay attention to HT awards..

hihi Barneys FARM, customers can only dream of that those "Multiple cannabis winners" strains was bred in huge farm fields :smoweed:

hmmm well... the fact that the marketing person screwed up and got the wrong picture published ismt evidence of much in my view. It is far more alarming to me to hear that some of there parental seeds came from Reeferman. Everything ive seen from him has been pure doo doo..

The only issue i have with your assertions Bohempian, are that i did quite a bit of reading before i posted this thread and during that research i probably read 25 grow reports of Barneys stuff over the past 2-3 yrs and talked directly to 4 differnt growers of 7 differnt strains and i must say that every single one of them were not only very pleased, they all have chosen mothers from Barneys lines.

If you look in the Grow Reports here, you'll see a very good report on Violator Kush. The pics are great and the grower was happy as hell and also has a mother. In the comments, several other growers agreed and said they had mothers too.

But thats why i made the post = I wanted to hear the opinions of all so thank you for yours.

To suggest that the marketing person got the wrong picture in that Barney's catalog is a stretch of the imagination. It's simply one photo cropped of its background and the contrast changed. It's a purposeful edit, not the same photograph accidentally dropped in.

I try not to get involved with seed bank politics, but to trust High Times as anything but pure marketing drivel is a mistake. They're ads, ads, ads. I wouldn't trust the cannabis cup on basis of their hosting it alone The early ones were worth reading, but it's not anymore.

Yeah, to get to the point your depending on someone, or like the cup, is doing to much, we all know what we like, and best teacher is expierence, and dont stop til you find what your looking for.

As for the cup, yes, I was out there pre 95 before shite took a turn, and like all dealings with money, you will have some kind of corruption, so yeah I can see how banks can get in good with a big advertisement agency, and get publicity for products, but its kinda a toss up, as why put a reputable name on the line just for junk, or money? Just cant be sure anymore. I guess its why they call it seed collecting, as this is what we end up with when its all said and done, I havent heard of a person just buy one strain their first time, and found happiness without venturing out trying more.

barney's red cherry berry harvested at day 57, taste & smell are 10/10, potency 5/10, high is not my cup of tea, very nice strain overall.. just as they described. my girlfriend loves her.
