Ban the use of neonicotinoid pesticides before they devastate bee populations in the USA

To: Environmental Protection Agency

Neonicotinoid, known as “neonics” for short, is a farm pesticide produced primarily by the German chemical giant Bayer, widely used in the U.S. to coat a massive 142 million acres of corn, wheat, soy and cotton seeds. They are also common ingredients in many home gardening products. However, three new studies* link neonics to declining bee populations nationwide - fully a third of commercial beehives, over a million colonies, have disappeared over the past year. The pesticide works as a nerve poison, infecting their insect victims and interfering with their homing ability, which in turn prevents them from making it back to their hives.

Germany and France have already banned pesticides known to cause the death of bees and there is still time to save bees in this country if you follow suit. We urge the EPA to protect nature’s hardest workers; please ban the use of neonicotinoid pesticides from being used on crops and in household products.

Healthy bee populations are essential to the production of our food. Bees are attracted to floral nectars and help pollinate the plant, allowing it to reproduce. Therefore, without honey bees, our lives would be impoverished by a general lack of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and other bee-pollinated plant products like corn, apples, oranges, lemons, broccoli, onions, blueberries, cherries, avocados, and many more.

Unfortunately, our widespread use of neonicotinoid pesticides is causing a dramatic decline in honey bee populations. The USDA projects that this year's corn crop will cover 94 million acres, all of which will be planted with seeds treated with neonicotinoid pesticides. In small doeses these pesticides damage the bees' immune systems and homing abilities; in large doses the pesticides are lethal.

Sign the petition to put pressure on the EPA to ban the use of these pesticides in order to protect the long-term health of our food system!

I don't like bees. Fuck 'em. They just have to take their chances like the rest of us. One day you're the windshield and the next you're the bee.

You do realise how vital to our food supply bees are?? They don't just pollinate daisies.
EDIT
MPD, your post has just reminded me of a joke.... I'll post it in the joke thread.

bee's provide 30% of the worlds pollination,, an industry worth a couple trillion ($/£/any fake state paper credits) provided free of charge.. monsanto and agripharma corporations dont like competition and the government is on their side.. it's just one of the future investment arenas for the multi billionaires like fresh water..

they dont have to do this either, they could make the world an incredibly healthy and diverse place and make lots more money but this isn't about money because they dont need it, they want power..

take down the global shadow government and then you may have a hope,, you would also be curing most of our other problems in the process as well..

check out who is controlling the food markets and you will find that the same people are running that as well.. running our health into the ground, controlling exactly how many calories and nutrients make it into their cattle.. the laws on what you can and cant grow just get more and more fascist all the time,, with eu laws and the codex alimentarius growing everyday..

they want a world of just monoculture crops grown on impoverished soil that doesn't allow them to bioaccumulate any goodness just NPK ferts, pollinated by robots that drive up and down blowing air around..

no humans working the crops, no insects, no biodiversity,, no ecosystem..

just sugary, watery GMO garbage, designed to be the only thing that can grow in the soil it is in..

some monsanto GMO crops have been altered genetically to actually change soil pH and fix certain elements into the soil they grow in in concentrations that ruin the ability to grow anything else.. many thousands of indian farmers have committed suicide because of monsanto's actions there alone..

And doctor who said they were leaving the planet and going home! Turns out it's far more complicated. They're being eliminated to make us rely on manufactured seeds rather than natural seeds. Who would have thought.

Here's a link to one study of chemicals in the hive: PLOS Study.

Chemicals build up in the wax to high enough levels or in enough combinations to weaken the larvae and queen. Lots of fungicides found in the wax too. I even stopped buying wax foundation for my frames, because the chemicals turn up in that wax too. All foundationless and chemical-free for me. Lose very few hives, and none to CCD.

I turn down a lot of pollination work because of chemicals that are "bee safe". My girls are too valuable to me to poison them for a few bucks. Also, bees travel a couple miles to collect nectar and pollen, so you have to be aware of everything that's growing in that circle, and assume that if there are crops, there are chemicals being used on them.
