Ballast Temp

Its about time to switch from my 400w to 1Kw. Only prob is its very loud, I was able to get rid of the vibrating metal, but the hum is just too loud.

I was wondering how hot it could get if I were to enclose it in a sound-proof box. I was hoping of just using 2 comp fans, one high cfm and one low on either side.

I heard that even with holes, the noise will be muffled, but whats the max temp I can push it? I'll be putting it in a styrofoam cooler w/ dynamat on the inside and outside (if I can find some, should)

There should be an ambient max. temp. rating on the ballast itself or if not google ambient max temp rating for 1K Bla bla ballast

Why not get the new 1,000W Lumatek digital ballast? Or better yet, as some say there are some problems with them still, get a 750W Lumatek digi (240V) - I have a bunch and they put out way more light than my old 1,000 SLS SS1's mag. coil. Much less heat, bulbs last much longer and don't degrade over the grow and no noise. No brainer!

oops - it's late .. misread your post ... I see you've already got the ballast .... oh well .....

Says nothing on the ballast about ambient room temp, i've been googling for awhile, Im thinking its around 120F, but having a hard time w/ google. I also know higher temps degrade the ballast quicker, but after this cycle im going for 600s and scrapping the 1Kw

I dont want to mess w/ digitals just yet, the light was suppose to be used at a house where only growers had access, but thanks too good old Murphy and his stupid laws I am now in an apartment by myself :(
