ballast safety

any suggestions? right now it's sitting on top of a shelf, but those rubber thing on the bottom of the ballast are getting hot and am wondering if it's going to melt on to the shelf, can I place it on a couple bricks?

bricks are good, they absorb the heat and spread it. also a little piece of cement board would do it. or hang the ballast somewhere if you can

if the shelf will hold the ballast, do you think I could hang it from the shelf? that's the same thing right? or due to gravity it will probably make the ballast heavier?

Put it on something that is nonflamable, sturdy, and does'nt conduct heat well. Brick, cement board or cinder blocks would work.

make the shelf stronger however you can, just to be safe. i have used plumbers strap screwed to the shelf and the ceiling to add strength

if you can, get a couple of heavy duty metal screw in hooks, find the support beams above the drywall, if you have drywall. Screw those babies in and hang it up.

if you can't find the support beams in the wall, DO NOT HANG IT JUST IN THE DRYWALL!!!!!

or you could go out to the home depot and get a board, next go out to the woods and hack down two stumps, and now you nail it all together, bam, a place to hang your shit.

I think i heard about you the other day, asking "if i put it on the shelf, will the gravity change? lol

Oh yeah, you need a fire extinguisher too and check your fire detectors.
You should always have several working fire detectors and at least one extinguisher fully charged on the gauge and annually inspected. Fires start so quickly in grow ops. if the fire department comes you'll be in trouble.

only you can prevent your forest fires!!

yeah, i have a smoke alarm, fire extingusher, and a fire sprinkler, right now the ballast is on a shelf with wonderboard on top of 2 bricks (wonderboard is supposed to be fire-proof or non combustable i believe) and the ballast on top of wonderboard, when I used to have the ballast on bricks the bricks would get a little warm, now with wonderboard on top of bricks, even the wonderboard barely gets warm and bricks stay the same, so hopefully it'll be alright

about the gravity thing what I meant was, if I put it on the shelf and it doesn't break if I hang it from the shelf will it break the shelf, since won't gravity try to bring the ballast down? creating more weight/pressure on the shelf, I don't know I have no idea what i'm talking about, hahaha.
