Ballast Cord **HELP**

Hey guys im setting up a new cab and am running a cooltube with a MH bulb and ballast. When i bought the cooltube the site said that it worked with MH bulbs and ballasts but upon opening the box i fond the the cord leading to the ballast is for a HPS. So now im a bit screwed. I have MH Ballast cord can i splice the cord with the MH fitting. I have done wiring b4 so actually doing it is no big deal i just want to make sure my house wont catch on fire. they both have a positive negative and ground wire so cant i do this? Thanks guys....

I dont really know if there is a difference between MH/HPS cords. Different ballast and hood providers use different cord sets so maybe that is your issue.

I think you can just splice it and get the cool tube wired up. Just make the wire connections secure. Maybe use a wire nut, then wrap in electrical tape

it sounds like you just bought a hydrofarm hood for a synsystems ballist,

hps and mh dontcare about the cord.
hydrofarm uses the round/oval plug and sunsystems use the square plug.
you need a converter by the sounds of it.


if you look at my 3 green ballasts you can see the square plug and about 2 inches of cord then a smaller roundish plug. its resting on the plugs.

sunsystems -> hydrofarm plugs.
there about 10$ at the hydro store.


here is 1/2 of one i put a standard 120 wall socket on for this older ballast ive got, so i can use a sunsystems hood with it.

hay o2 in my bigger flower area I use 1 hps and mh i flip back and forth on the hoods I change the bulb and have the cord that come out of the transformers unplug there just 3 wire cord 1 hot 1 ground 1 neutral
