Balkenende again?

I heard from some friends that the actual government is the most hated since the end of the Big War and maybe one of the most prohibitionist in the recent dutch history. I also read that CDA was losing a lot of votes and consents in recent times.
So why can he maintain his task of chief of government?

Because his party is still the largest party, despite the fact that they lost a lot of seats in these elections. A lot of votes also shifted from labour to socialist, both left-wing parties. The net result of this is that little has changed in terms of left/right-ratio in the yet to be formed government, it's only more evenly spread out over a greater number of parties now.

Because CDA has the most seats I expect Balkenende to stay in seat as the prime-minister. He'll have a hell of a time forming a new coalition now though, since he keeps refusing to cooperate with the second largest party, labour. Chances are that the future coalition in the government will not last for a long time and we'll have re-elections in a year or two, as opposed to the four-year period between regular elections. After yesterday's elections it seems opinions are even more divided, making the formation of a new government pretty complicated.

In general people weren't happy with the way things went in previous years, but maybe the lack of a good alternative has caused people to vote for CDA again. Out of fear or insecurity, who knows... But fact is that we're stuck with Harry Potter again, and some opportunist short-term visioned parties on top of that. A coalition with the socialist party is very unlikely, so it will probably be CDA, labour and another party. This results in a stronger opposition, but little change in the actual government.

Yeah...I can comprehend it. I thought this kind of things could happen only in my country (I can't tell you which one for my privacy and safety). Gotta fight or simply resist, depending on the media you have. Nederland was/is/will be the greatest exemple of intellectual freedom since Medium Age for all european people.
