If you are still getting your feet wet, bagseed is definitely a lot cheaper route to go. You may be surprised with what comes out of the bagseed. Once you are comfortable and have dialed in your grow go ahead and shop for some good genetics imo.
I've heard a lot of people talk shit on using seeds from mids, but I have seen some serious results. I have like 500 of them but have been reluctant to start going through them because I don't wanna end up with a bunch of hermie mutants...which is what a lot of people say is going to happen.
I think it's definitely worth it to try though if you're getting the ole feet wet.
I have taken bagseed from some regulars..grew it out and it was kind bud.I think alot of the commercial bagseed started out as something good.It just wasnt grew right.
But it is better I think (if it is possible) to have some nice stable genetics. In the long run it most usually turns out alot better.Takes atleast some of the guess work out of it.
If your just running a few plants at a time for personal head stash fem seeds are great. Some people report problems with fem genetics..some dont.I have a Fem White Rhino strain that I have had running (cloning then flowering out) for over a year now.I have never had a problem with it at all.I probably wouldnt use fem genetics in a breeding program though.Im not sure it would be a problem...but just in case I wouldnt chance it.Some do though.
Started with bag seeds and at the time I thought "these are great, no way I need to buy beans." Fast forward about six months and I get up the nerve to purchase my first real genetics, and now I'm about 99.9% sure I will never grow bagseed again. What I considered to be "dank" before I bought seeds cannot even begin to touch some of the stuff I have purchased. It really does make a difference! Like everyone says you MIGHT find some gems in some random bag seeds but why waste the time and energy on something when you can buy and know for a fact it'll be dank. Start with some Mandala or Nirvana gear and you will see buying beans is worth the hype
I started out with bagseed, and continued to use them even when I had a few breeder packs on hand.
The bagseed bud wasn't bad and is still worth your effort, but in hindsight after growing breeder seeds, I wish I had been growing the bred genetics from the get go. You can only grow so many times in your life, and each time is worth a nice strain, plus every farmer knows to start with the best seed.
Bagseed gives you "smokeable" plants most of the time unless you have space to really find a keeper.
So overall healthy bagseed is good to have stashed for selecting phenotypes, but I would never put the weight of a grow on bagseed again.
While you take the risk growing , you might as well buy a pack of something special, that you like, has decent reviews and is in your price range.
thank yall great answers i love reading peoples opinions so keedp going...
ya i have grow about 9 or 10 outdoor bag seeds and every time it is something great. always so realy good looking shit... whenever i use a bag seed i always wait till i get a awsome bag then i smoke the bag and save every seed of it and look for the biggest hardes most rino seed and go from there..
i totaly agree with "You can only grow so many times in your life, and each time is worth a nice strain, plus every farmer knows to start with the best seed." might as well make it great.
that why im gonna do my first indoor with a bag seed and next time im gonna go for a challange an buy some seeds and grow something AMAZING!!
i saw in the top few post you was talkin about "hermies"???
im assuming this is like a deffect lik the plant i have now out side has 3 top buds!!!! and its realy patchy i never had one like this before
Hey Kotton mouth a hermie is a plant that has boy and girl parts at the same time. Not really that good if you set out to get seedless weed, but if you want seeds then you will get feminized seeds from that hermie plant (which when grown out will often make more hermie prone plants). You really don't have to worry about that outdoors cause its not something you can control but indoors is a different story because you are in total control of the environment. Light leaks, improper lighting schedule, temps, are just some factors that can cause an otherwise female plant to hermie and make male flowers. It's definitely not a good thing for most of us that's for sure!
every bag seed i have ever grown was a unique experience. i have a high tolerance a.k.a i get used to things real fast, so no matter what it is, kush, diesel, haze, oaxacan. after 2 or 3 times smoking it i dont get the same feeling as the first time i smoked it. so i go for variety. nothing more varietal than a random bagseed from some random weed from some random location on the planet. i found one that smells like cinnamon when it cures, and tastes like cinnamon when you smoke it. ive never heard of anyone anywhere say they ever had cinnamon weed. found it in a random bagseed, i crossed it and have like 50 seeds of it ready to find that cinnamon trait again. another one i found tastes like black pepper when you smoke it. crazy taste, nothing special about the high but it was different. another one was a male plant that smelled a lot like berries, it was all mutanty too im glad i didnt kill it because it was very resilient and survived a harsh midwest winter sitting on a drafty windowsill. i took the pollen and crossed it with my misha hopefully the next run will have a hardy plant that can survive extreme cold and smells like berries and cinnamon.
