Bad news from my neurologist.........

I'll try and keep the background story brief, there's about 4yrs worth to cover, lol. In early 2007 I was diagnosed with MS at the age of 27 and started on a weekly dose of interferon(1X/wk injection). Up until this past fall(2010) I have been fairly fortunate in that I had only experienced minor side effects. In late Nov I awoke to my left leg being completely numb from the waist down. This had happened to me once before and lasted roughly 3.5 weeks so I was not too panicked by what was happening so much as I was frustrated about how long it would last this time. 2 days later I awoke to find my left leg had regained sensation, but I could not feel anything from my waist up. All previous issues were always in my lower half and always on the left side. Meaning that the right side of my brain is affected by plaques(sclerosis), as confirmed by MRI's. I could still move but had NO sensation of anything above my waist, sensation of my hands or how hard I was gripping included. I was off work until early Jan 2011 without pay as I have no short term disability coverage @ work . In mid-Feb 2011 I was referred to a neurologist specializing in MS. After conducting a few dexterity tests she told me I should have an MRI but that by her assessment i should regain sensation of my upper body by mid-June if things were on par. OK so here's the bad news part. The MRI has shown that the plaques have spread into my spinal chord, which explained why my upper body was now affected. I have been on an increased dose of interferon(3x/wk now @ 4.5 times the dose). I have been missing work quite a bit lately as I am experiencing many side effects from the interferon(nasty shit, only clocked 33hrs in the last 2 weeks). I have been trying rather hard for quite some time now to find some kind of employment from home but can't seem to think of anything. I know ppl will say call center but I can't do it. Been there done that, not worth the stress and what it does to my health at this point. I'm trying to plan for the future, as my fiance and I are saving for a down payment on a house and I can't do that if I keep missing work. I would also like to get my MMAR license once we get a house as well(Can't find a Doc to sign despite being Cat. 1) Any ideas on a work from home job? Any help would be appreciated

If you aren,t already seeing very professional Dr,s then that would be my first move.I know they are all good but some are better than others. To work at home ,I don,t know what to tell you,but as far as a your Doc refusing to sign a card for you there is def, something very strange going on,because of anyone who finds MJ to help that should be the first thing your Doc should put his signature on.You must be in a low populated area.Your neurologist should sign your card ..unless he or she is the one who refused then believe me someone on here will be able to give you better info that I can.It really burns me up when a Doc won,t sign for someone in your situation,All I can say is good luck and don,t give up.You sound like you,re a determined individual to begin with.
all the best

a friend of mine is paralyzed and so works from home, he does secretarial work for a business. Essentially he does scheduling calling businesses, paperwork mailing etc. but these things depend on your skill set and what you might be passionate about. I know a girl who works from home with her kids, she hand raises birds for extra money, another guy I met raises fish (the irony... the fish guy was totally blind?)

I agree you should make sure you find a doctor that really knows his(or her) shit. Don't settle for your family doctor, search around. Try an online ms support group that has locals in it. I needed a skilled out of town specialist once upon a time and I was able to get a referral to see him through a group that talked regularly online. Make sure you don't see just any neurologist, see someone who knows MS, specializes in it. They can often help by overseeing your local healthcare if you have to travel to see the specialist. Its worth it to do that for yourself.

When you ask about you MMAR come armed with your reasoning for it, documentation supporting your cause if you have to. If you are at home now, I don't know whether you have a drug plan or not, but weed is probably cheaper and safer symptom management than some of the other doctor perscribed medicines you might take. a MS specialist will know what value marijuana can be for his patients, knowing how many ms patients work from home or are unemployed as a result of their illness, and perhaps more sympathetic to your reasoning. Your local doc might not quite see it in use too often for that purpose, and if hes like PM Harper, he will base all of his knowledge about weed based of ficticious hoodlems that might try to corrupt his children.

Cheers dude I hope things get better soon. Don't forget the value of staying positive and proactive. Keep smiling )

Frosty - ever thought of blogging for a living, or doing some creative writing?

Pick up these two books, and give them a read:

Pro Blogger - Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett - ISBN 798-0-470-61634-5
Inbound Marketing - Brian Halligan and Dharmesh Shah - ISBN 978-0-470-49931-3

You can also often find people looking to have on-line articles written for them, through sites such as http://www.vworker.com/

Find a subject matter you are most familiar with (a hobby, career specialty, your illness or MMJ for instance), and start blogging - each book tells you how to get started, what free resources are available to you, and how to monetize (make money) from sponsor advertising.

Stay away from the typical "work from home" scams. Their promises are empty, no matter how hard you work. All they ask is for more money, and sell your information to other "work from home" scammers.

I would have PM'd you, but I don't have enough posts under my belt.

Peace

I like how someone found my post not helpful. That is exactly what social security/ whatever canada has is for. People that can not work due to disabilities. Yes he may be able to work, but it is obviously not easy for him and is only going to get harder until he dies. I am sure he has been paying his taxes his whole life whats wrong with getting some back? Seriously, whoever thumb downed me lets debate this.

Thanks for all the info ppl. I'm more surprised that I even got a reply. lol I'm going to look into a few of these suggestions and see what I can come up with. Once again many thanks.
