Backup Power Supply

ok guys, i need a few brains on this one. say we have a stanley fan/filter combo in an apartment and the electricity was to go off. :yoinks: yeah, all 8 families in the building will smell this grow. so what should we do, electricity sometimes goes out for hours in the summer. the fan needs to run continuous through blackouts and brownouts and all. the fan is rated at High - 2181 cfm; 0.85 amp Medium - 1746 cfm; 0.62 amp Low - 1282 cfm; 0.50 amp so worst case is just under 1 amp draw. this is a motor so i think it will take a special power supply unlike a lamp would take. any help and comments welcome! also i would like as long of a reserve as possible for emergency sakes.

thanks guys!

Since you're only looking for odor control backup maybe go with a super small carbon scrubber and small fan combo. You just need a little negative pressure so you could get away with a smaller UPS and/or extend the time the UPS you can afford will run so extra safety/security??? I'm gonna install an electric damper in a line so something like that may stop/slow odor leaking out or at least somehow support the backup system you wanna install.

niggan8, yeah man thats what i was lookin into but most say rated at 30 mins full or 15mins half wattage. im lookin for some hours and idk how many watts ups to look for. anyone experienced in ups please post up.

adversereaction high, thanks for the input but id rather not have to make another fan/filter combo for backup and then still need a power supply for it. worste case i will get a couple 8d caterpillar batts and a heavy fuckin duty power inverter and trickle charger before i get a smaller filter for backup. thanks though man.

anyone know what type 12vdc to 120ac inverter i would need to power that stanley fan for hours

keep in mind those UPS's are meant for computers which draw at least 300watts constantly... how much u think your stanley draws? :)

Lol...You're asking for a backup solution and you're looking at a UPS, which is fine, but what's the cost-to-benefit ratio? I'm just saying get a super small scrubber/fan combo which would mean a much smaller UPS to drive it so what's you're initial outlay and what do you get in return?

Have fun...

As for inverters... I have a 400watt inverter and let me tell you it wont power my volcano vaporizer unless my jeep is running... :( Not to mention its noisy as fuck... I wouldn't recommend that as a backup solution

A computer DOES NOT draw 300w constantly. Infact unless you are playing a game or encoding video / audio, your computer is most likely using very little energy.

How bout this idea... Buy a UPS, test it out and if it doesnt last long enough, return it. Thats a perfectly ethical thing to do.

Correction: YOUR computer doesnt draw 300watts constantly ... i have a 500watt power supply and 4 hard drives along with a 7950GT Video card... I think im OVER 300watt constant draw.

lol...I've setup servers that had dedicated 50a/240v feeds running to them - that's just a tad over 300w

They make UPS's for ANY size power draw...you're just gonna pay for the serious stuff with long reserves.
