I have not been posting any of this grow lately due to all of the insanity that moving has created in my life. But, finally things are begining to return to somewhat normal, and my garden finally rejoined me a couple of days ago. right now I have them in a half assed grow space in the corner of my office in the basement. Tomorrow, construction will begin on a more permanent grow room, and I could not be more excited. One thing being up to your ass in snow is good for: lots a indoor projects can finally be tended to.
So, I have 6 aak x nycd fems that are in their 6th week. the only male I got from the pack hermied, so I pollinated them with a bluestreak male. This male initially looked pretty shitty, but really started getting better with age. Was initially a bean pole, but started to get rather branchy late, and really started to purple up. I ended up pollinating them on 12/26 after a day of travelling from Christmas. I had initially intended on doing a limited pollination, but was so strung out from the travels that I ended up hitting them really hard...like as in 5 of the 6 are nearly 100% seeded. hope this cross is a good one, as I will have more than a few beans from it. All of the aks are rather tall and very branchy, vigourous, and beautiful. 5 of them are about 18" tall, and one is about 24". Surprisingly, not a very strong odor, and it is a fuity pebbles/juicy fruit gum primary smell with a sour, rotten background funk. I do not find the aroma very appealing. Some pics, and there are not many because I am uploading through a cell phone, and it takes forever.
Group 1, and I really like the pheno on the left...thick and meaty, and this one was actually the runt that I considered killing.....
group 2, and the one on the far right is about 24"
Now to the Sour 60. 12 of 12 germed, all survived, and 8 are fems. Germed on 12/17/09, which puts them at 20 days, and they have spent all of their time under 234 watts of cfl. I am debating swapping places with the ak's, and letting them finish under the cfls so that the sours can enjoy some LED...but they really look pretty good. I think I will give them another week, and once they really start to explode, Ill putem under the LED. I am not seeing alot of pheno variation in the fems...but it is early yet, and there is some begining to become clear. Some definite separation in the males, and of the 4, I think I am gonna narrow it down to 2, one is very tall (#10)with branching just starting and some slight purpling, and one that is stocky and broad,(#8) and very branchy. One of the better looking af males I have seen.
The girls all showed sex very early, pretty much at the same time that the boys did...except for 2. Just starting to see some different phenos now that they are starting to take off, but it is still really subtle. No odor from either the boys or the girls at this point. Some pics...
6 of the 8 fems, and I appologize for the crappy pics, the lighting sucks.
2 fems in 2 gal pots
I very well may regret using these pots, but my space is so limited, and my bud needs so big, that I had to do it to maximize space. At least I have the 2 in 2 gallon pots to compare yields to the ones in the window boxes. The ak's seem to be handling the pots well, so hopefully the sours will too. Once I am done with the construction of the new grow room, hopefully on Saturday, I think I am gonna add a 150 w hps. It is so friggin cold here, that I am running a heater in the grow space to keep temps in the 70's. If I am gonna burn the electic anyway, I may as well be generating some bud with it, so the HPS will have a dual role: light and heater, and will let me break out some of the long season beans.
Boy am I excited for these babies to finish
