Asbestos Concerns

I just found out my recently defunct gravity furnace in my basement most likely has asbestos in and around it. I moved my 40 day into flower plants into this room about 2 weeks ago, not realizing how dangerous the furnace is. Since the furnace no longer works, I've resorted to using a space heater. I would use more than one but the house (built in 1904) is wired so badly that ALL the house lights are on 2 circuit breakers, and ALL the outlets are on 2 others. I can only run one space heater without blowing the breaker. I am so sick of dealing with this that I am moving out as soon as these plants are done. My question is, will the asbestos from the furnace harm the plants? The furnace is about 5 feet from the closest plant, which is enclosed in mylar. The only contact they could have with the carcinogens is if wind from the fan stirs up dust which lands on the plants. I obviously dont want to be smoking asbestos dust. How serious of an issue is this? Should I trash my ladies, move out and start over?

If the asbestos cladding around the furnace is intact then paint or varnish over it and leave it,its only when its broken you get fibre release, once you get fibres floating around the real trouble begins, thats why lots of electricians and maintenance guys contract asbestos related diseases due to drilling into AIB and releasing fibres which they then breath in.

you should be ok if the asbestos is encapsulated some how . tape it up and seal the area of air tight . move out soon so you can grow without these worries .

there was asbestos in my basement also.. on the steam pipes.. I paid about $2500 to have it removed and safely disposed of..

I think your issue is the condition of the asbestos.. if it is wrapped or like plaster and none of it is loose-- not too bad.. encapsulate it in paint/varnish, rent a hepa wetvac wet it down and vac it all up.. because that stuff IS on your floor..
if the asbestos is fraying.. run away or have it removed..

it sucks no matter how you look at it..

I agree with all of the previous posts, as long as its not airborne... dont worry about it..

Additionally dont mess with it either... Once you gets airborne and it gets in your lungs, it doesnt come out.

Mebby clean up the place really good and get a HEPA filter. I really cant say if your grow if ruined.

I don't think there is any damage to the asbestos covered parts, Ill have to double check when I get home from work. I am a renter so it is the landlords responsibility to maintain the basic livability of my rental. Now my next concern is how to hide them when the furnace repair guy/landlord comes to inspect. I am legal/medical, but I don't want ANYONE to know about my grow. I may have to move em to an adjacent room (DWC- D'oh!) while the work is done.
