Like most of us I've always had to be clandestine. My grows were always small and personal, and never turned into work. When I was able to, it added joy to my home life always seems a shame to keep all that goodness locked up in the closet. Shutting the door was a bummer.
Hey!! I'm in Colorado now! Have been for a bit but I'm rent-poor despite a decent job & if I can go fetch my hardware a few states away I'll probably have to start out low-key again but I'm daydreaming of setting up something totally integrated to home life, has some style & is legal for a rec grow in CO (basically lockable & six plants - i think plants under 6" don't count, but I'm not sure).
My first idea - ever work in a machine shop or factory with equipment from the 60's to the early 80's? Know the big cabinets that would hold a machine's custom assembled electronics inside & have all the controls on the front door- over sized switches & knobs, weird displays, those big glowing lights like you see on carnival rides? If you can't visualize, think of a 70's sci-fi B movie spaceship, Maybe the og Enterprise bridge...
I'd use one with a footprint of say 2 1/2' deep & 4' wide, 6'-7' tall. Moms & clones in a small lower space (or elsewhere), windows to the flowering chamber would be double paned & filled with a colored liquid to cut uv's/lumens to the outside observer & add a cheezy science effect - i could make bubbles in the windows & maybe use a viscous liquid... The lights should actually indicate the workings - veg & flower lights on/off, pumps, readout for air & res temp, maybe throw some sort of oscilloscope screen on there doing something, silly stuff. Way more work than necessary but that isn't the point here, it's the love. If you wanted to go all out on this idea make it a time machine with a knob on the door that let you select a few years, say 1969, 1972, 1979 or 1988. Select the year, watch the lights, listen to some beeps & buzzers, open the door and find a columbian, thai, skunk or northern lights depending on the selected year. Or just a really clean minimalist mid-century/modern cabinet that looks like nothing's doing at all until you open the door & see a couple banzai moms, but it can be right there in the living room next to the turntable.
Anything creative or anyone living daily with their plants more or less openly in their homes (or yards) is what I'm thinking. Pics would feed my eager imagination, if this thread takes off & a year later I've got some freaky set-up going that'll blow minds that'd be tits. If it just gets some fun ideas shared that would be cool enough so what are you thinking?
Maybe somebody has a big 'ol Sativa tree in a pot decorated for the holidays? Or maybe you know of a dispensary that has a well-designed & integrated little "show grow" in the lobby? A koi-pond with plants floating around on the surface?
