Are you able to cut ducting? and if so how?

Are you able to cut the ducting that we use....I have 4"x25ft and that is way too much for me....I'm using a small fan, so less ducting is more in my situation....I really dont want too mess the ducting up too much...Any ideas? Thanks Wedgey

haha...na, wasn't joking.....it's late, im ripped ..also not the most handiest of people, obvious by my last question... I'll check the Depot tommorrow for a metal cutter...thanx

like smurf said, tin snips are the best way. anything else is going to tear it up and be a bitch and I'm assuming you're talking about hard duct. if you're talking about flexible, use scissors for the foil and dike's to cut the metal ring.

After you cut it, make sure to "unravel" the end using a small piece of tape. This will make life a little easier... and better...

Future reference information (I understand it doesn't relate directly to OP): a sheet metal nibbler (available for < $10), along with the obvious tin snips, is quite useful for making custom taps, etc., in rigid ductwork.

depending what the duct is made of you can get away with a pair of scissors for the "material" and use the snips in the center of your pliers to snip the metal.

MEASURE 10 TIMES CUT ONCE! ( you think I'm kidding? I just gave a bedroom to a grow tent cuz I didnt check it would fit the loft ;-) ..durrr )

Most scissors will work, but it'll leave a nice little notch in most of 'em. If you plan on doing any kind of metal cutting again in the future, I recommend you invest in a set. You can get a set of 3 (straight, left, and right curved) generic "Workforce" brand snips for $10 at Home Depot.

Thanks everyone!!! To the Depot, I shall go today, too look for those snipers.....Hey badugi, are the the artist formerly known as Clowntown?? If so, I haven't seen ya around lately, whats up!!!
