Are there any benefits to mixing coco and soil?

I've been reading threads about how great coco is as a growing medium. I know most coco growers don't mix anything with it except for perlite, but I was wondering if it is okay to mix coco and soil.

Are there any examples of mixing them on ICMag? Are there any benefits to using both rather than using straight soil, or is mixing them a no-no?

I mix soil and CoCo
I use it as a peat alternative. As for the benefits, I am not sure, I have changed so many things on the fly it is had to tell.
I am sure there will be people telling you not to do it
But I am also using Maple syrup in place of molasses as well, I am sure some might say, that is a no no as well.

I put it all back to personal preference

Bio Canna soil uses Canna coco in its soil mix, I don't see why you shouldn't.

As for maple syrup vs molasses, molasses has more carbon, and other nutrients, as it's a concentrate. Black strap especially, which really isn't fit for human consumption. If you seperated the sugar from the maple syrup you'd probably have something pretty similar to molasses.

Thanks for your replies Dr Dog and ixnay007. I think after I get my grow a little more dialed in and regular, I'll do a little experiment on some clones in coco mixed with FFOF and an equal number in plain FFOF so I can see some differences.

I love being a pot farmer. :headbange

I mix 60% Fox Farm organic soil with 20% perlite and 20% Canna Coco.Works great.

Coco works great for extra drainage. My mix seems almost hydro.

Almost forgot.....use the big chunky perlite(fox farms) it kicks over the smaller cut
perlite.
