I bought some rapid rooters last year but never used them. Are they still useable? Can I soak them and put the cutting in the rooter or should I buy some more?
They will be fine. Just soak them, squeeze out the excess water and pop in your cuttings. I wish I had some, I have to drive a hundred miles to pick some more up....
DAM! 100 Miles WOW. I must be lucky. Why not buy them online? I was gonna get some jiffy peat packs. But I'll soak them tonight and pop the cutting in tomorrow morning. Thanks.
I really like the rapid rooters, and I dont like buying online and leaving a paper trail. I take a meat thermometer and ream the hole just a bit to get the stems in without forcing them.
i keep mine in the crisper of my fridge. i'll use what i want and squeeze most of the air out, and store. you have to put tape over the holes the staples make when you remove the display packaging so it's airtight.
if i'm propagating i put my seed into the hole after the seed has soaked for 24 - 36 hours in a shot glass of water and sunk to the bottom. and tear a small piece off the edge of the rapid rooter to cover with moisture.
If I'm cloning i use a humidity dome with those little plastic cells meant for peat pellets. the 36 count is good for my purposes. so i take my rapid rooter and cut it on one side with a single edge razor blade to the center so now my RRooter is like a tortilla or hot dog bun. I can dip my clone into my prefered powder or gel and wrap it in the RRooter without much disruption to the clone stem or wiping my hormone treatment away. i slip the RRooter into the lastic cell and it holds it all together nice and snug.
I know this was about old RRooters. some folks chimed in on thier techniques and i thought i would share since were on the subject.
and yea man,
wet 'em and root 'em those RRooters are made of natural plant matter or cellulose or sumthin natural should be fine.
thanks badwizard. i made some cutting this morning and put them in a humidity dome. some are smaller than others, but i think i should be ok. after i openend the pack i put the rest in a rubermaid bowl. tonight i'll put them in the fridge when i get home. i'll post some updates.
lol JJScorpio. i enjoyed your outdoor grow. very inspirational!
MTF can't wait to get home to check up on the cutting. I was gonna grow JJxSS, B-52, Igloo Mix, and Ozuhawi F1's next time. But if the clones work I'll probably germ one of each strain and hope for 1 or 2 females to grow with the clones. i'm out...looking forward to evening bong hit. peace out!!!!
I never had any luck with rapid rooters except when I grew Hydroponically.I use dixie cups filled with soil to start them and it seemsto work better for me.
Kinda depends on your planned grow style...if you're gonna do a SOG, then go ahead and make clones outta them...if you're doing bush plants then leave them on.
WitchKing- this my first time using them. In the past I used jiffy peak packs. They worked fine. I was in the hydro store last year and bought some. I read such great things about them. Haven't tried them in my bubbler yet, but I think I will with a couple of these clones. I'm sure there's 20 ways to clone.
I just successfully rooted my first batch of clones in RRs.. from a bag sitting in the fridge from last summer no less.
I did nothing fancy. Cut, dip in gel, stick in existing hole, and let them sit in a tray and humidome. About 75-80 in the dome. I sprayed the dome every day and didn't touch the plants.
Roots were out in 7, completely out in 8, and I transplanted in 10 days.
Good luck!
[edit: strains were Lifesaver, CHEMxMSxC99, and Nirvana 4way]
Clones have sprouted roots. I have some questions. I started the clones out with 2 100 watt philips CFL's. Yesterday, which made a 7 days, I decided to put my 400 mh over them. Then as I was reading, here at work, how that was a waste of electricity. I thought about it and it make sense. Then I went home on lunch (took a couple of bong hits. don't tell the boss.) took down the 400 and hung up my agrosun full spectrum fluor tubes. (boy were they dusty. i haven't use those in 2 years.) They are 20 watt and I have two. Ok which makes the most sense while in the humidome? The two 100 CFL's or the agro sun 4' 20w fluro's? Eventually I'll hang the 400mh back up, along with my 400hps, for vegging. These clones will veg until 12-15. Then off the flower chamber. The flower room has a 1000hps. That's my set up. I'd hate to run the 400mh too early and waste money, but I still want sturdy stems and tight node development. What would be the best way to go until hang both 400's up?
I was thinking about transplanting the cuttings to red beer cups this weekend. Once I transplant to soil should I still use the humidome, or will its usefulness have run it course? I provide some pics tonight. Thanks in advance.
Well here's the pics. My plan now is to use the agrosun fluro tubes two 40w and the two 100w CFL's. That's 360w. Tomorrow I'm going to transplant the cutting into red cups. I was going to use this set up for two weeks. Then on the 11-10 I was going hang the 400mh and follow up with the 400hps two weeks later. Veg with the 800w until the other closet is ready. How's this sound?
