Apt flooded...grow is in the next room

What the hell should I do? I have to get this fixed ASAP it's starting to smell like mildew in my entire bedroom. I have a box fan blowing on the affected area but it's not really doing anything. Does anybody think its a good idea to tell the landlord about this situation? Like I said I have my grow in the room right next door which is like the storage room for my apt. I'm in a cab and have a filter but if anyone needs to go in there for any reason they would no doubt see everything. I really really don't want to have to shut down have some girls almost finished and with others soon to go in. I've never had this problem before but I have to deal with it now. Any and all advice is appreciated.

yeah dude, you gotta chop and hide/ camoflage that cab. when it comes to water leaks, the landlord and repair people are gonna check EVERYWHERE to find the extent of the damage. If your smelling mildew then it's probably travleng up the walls, which means repairing dry wall. All kinds of work to be done, all kinds of workers in your place. Better safe than sorry. I had the same problem a couple years ago, major pain in the ass, luckily I took cuts right when it happened and hid them real well. A small box is much easier to hide. Good luck bro, I hope it all works out.Peace, MB
Edit: If you don't tell the landlord soon he/she can sue you for the damages.

Mr. Bojangles thanks for the reply. What you just said was my worst case scenario, that they would have to come check for mold in the walls and what not. I should mention that it's a house and I'm in the basement unit so the walls are made from cinder blocks so there is no dry wall to tear up (at least in the part that is affected). Also my landlord is kinda negligent about this place, it takes him a really long time to fix things so I was thinking if I could just get some kind of temporary fix and be able to ride it out till the lease is up in a few months then I'd be cool and he would never have to know. That "he can sue you" part is something I hadn't considered though. The good point about this place has always been the freedom to grow without a lot of interference from him, and now the bad thing is obviously now that I have a problem and need to get it fixed I don't know if I should have him over here. If it wasn't for the mildew smell in my room I would be cool but despite my efforts so far it's not going away :frown:

if it's still leaking you have to shut down and call the landlord. or schedule and pay for a plumber yourself. if the leak only happens when it rains like fuck you might be able to live with it until harvest. that said, exposure to mildew can be dangerous. now bleach kills mildew. and a garden sprayer filled with water and bleach will work to treat a large area. however, if it's in the carpet or sheetrock you may have to chuck it.

Thanks for the reply Cojito, that bleach solution idea is GREAT! Will give that a shot around the parts that leaked and see if it takes care of some of the smell. The leak was a one time thing (I HOPE!), the water stopped coming in now it's just mildewy. I'm going to do the bleach thing today and see if that does anything. Thanks for that suggestion

good drown

what caused the leak? if it was heavy rain it was most likely not a one time thing

Growing in a apt is never a good idea. If its a major leak they can bust in w/o notice. Ask me how I know this

Thanks for the replies guys, well to answer your question good drown, the water came in from the foundation. We had an unusually big rainfall hit us last week and the day after is when I noticed there was water seepin into my closet. I have lived here for two years and it never did that before, and you are probalby right about it doing it again. I just need to make it about 4 more weeks and I can tear down and let him know then I guess. I'm not worried about him busting in unnannounced as I said they are very negligent about this place and requested services often take weeks or months to be resolved. Good for growing but bad for everything else I guess :dunno:

good deal man, looks like you got it under control. Yeah a little bleach water solution should help alot. If you got carpet in that closet, just pull it back an spray the fuck out of the concrete and walls and let it dry, then put the carpet back. Buys you some time. Good luck, bro.:tiphat:

You should rent a big dehumidifier to dry out the apartment. as you are in a basement there is not going to be much ventilation and the water has nowhere to go. should solve the problem as long as there is no more water getting in.

If the water is coming from the outside, the LL needs to paint/seal the block or install a french drain outside.

I wouldn't sweat it too much. If the LL is lazy, you can just tell him it happened once, and you figured it was a fluke with the heavy rain and that dried everything up.

If it keeps happening, you need to tell him. It is the right thing to do, don't let his shit get destroyed because of your girls.

You can rent a commercial DH from Sunbelt or any decent tool rental place. Get a shop vac and vacuum that carpet.

Do you see any mold/mildew? I bet it isn't that bad, it is just a little musty

Thanks for the reply recon and dtfsux. So I decided to go with a two prong attack plan. The first step is to as recon suggested and get a dehumidifier and let that do it's thing for a couple days. After that I"m going to have some professional capet cleaners come and get the smell out and hopefully that will clear everything up. Just in the couple days since I first posted this the smell level has gone way down, it still smells, but not nearly as strong as before. Hopefully the combination of the dehumidifier and the deep cleaning will be enough to keep things in check. Will update once it all plays out!
