Aphids...i need advice..please help...

I noticed today that i have flyn' aphids....this is a first for me....my plants are about 3weeks flower now & im freakn' out :frown:

I pulled everyone out & did a fumigation treatment in the room.....i also lightly sprayed all the gals with neem....i know thats not gona solve the ones in my root's, but it's all i know how to do :dunno:

Please help with a few questions icmag friends....

1) do aphids spread from plant to plant(in the roots)...if so how fast?

2) even though i have killed everything(bugs) visable in the room how fast will these aphids effect the flowering of my plants?

3) at 3wks flower now can i make it 6 more weeks till chop? or should i plan for an early harvest?

its a sad day in my world....very sad....any help will be met with extreme gratitude....

Here is an article by Ed Rosenthal that I found a few days ago about aphids after discovering them on a couple clones I got. It pretty much condenses it and says it all after sifting through dozens of articles, hope this helps.

Root aphids colonize and suck juices from roots in many mediums including horticultural pebbles, rockwool and planting mixes. They are persistent, so it requires some discipline to eliminate them. There are several organic products that can be used without affecting the plant, the buds, or the safety of the buds for later human consumption.

The first is organic pyrethrum. This is a natural insecticide gathered from a chrysanthemum-type flower. There are several brands of liquid concentrate. If pyrethrum liquid is not available at your local nursery or garden shop you can order it on the internet.

Botanigard is an insecticide that is composed of a living fungus, beauveria bassiana. This fungus seeks out aphids and infects them, causing death. Then it releases spores waiting for more victims. It also works to control whiteflies and thrips. You can order it at many garden stores or through garden websites on
the internet.

Neem oil and citrus oil have also been used to kill aphids, but they sometimes affect the roots. Test them on a sample plant before using either of them in the garden.

The aphids should be treated every other day with a minimum of six treatments. Rotate the insecticides. Botanigard can be combined with pyrethrum. The neem and citrus oils can be mixed with each other as well as pyrethrum. The idea is to totally eliminate the pests.

If the plants are growing in a hydroponic system, rather than mixing the treatment in the reservoir, make a special batch of water. Turn off the hydroponic system and water the plants using a watering can. Let the insecticide water stay in the root area for at least an hour before turning the hydroponic unit back on.

Once the aphids are gone, it is difficult for them to reinfect. They were probably introduced to your garden by a new element such as a clone or infected planting mix.

any bug bomb with the ingredient Nylar will kill all flying aphids in one shot....

for root aphids, merit75 is the best choice, dump into your nutrient and water like normal, all the root aphids will be floating in your res, also a 1 shot deal....

for root aphids, azamax can be used as a drench application, also try dutch master zone in conjunction with azamax to make sure they all die. use the azamax to spray the plants down and youll kill everything in there. also root aphids hate lionel richie, so put his cd on repeat and watch them kill themselves lol

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacillus_thuringiensis for anything in the root zone,
these products will be listed as containing "BTI"

you can google "BTI fungus gnats" for more info.

I'm partial to safers insecticidal soap (i've used avid, floramite and shit like that heavily and actually prefer the soap)

1) do aphids spread from plant to plant(in the roots)...if so how fast?
Depends which type, species will feed off green growth, usually leaves

2) even though i have killed everything(bugs) visable in the room how fast will these aphids effect the flowering of my plants?
if you've killed everything, you may be in the clear, try to identify the exact type of bugs you're dealing with

3) at 3wks flower now can i make it 6 more weeks till chop? or should i plan for an early harvest?
what symptoms have you noticed on the plants thus far?, do you have any idea so far as to the extent of the infestation?

Aphids...i need advice..please help...

if we are not talking root lice, aphids are easy to beat!

soap and water is all I use, neem oil if I want to be sure. just treat every 3 days until they are gone.

if ants are farming them you can do what you want, it won't work until you beat the ants. fir that use boric acid mixed with honey, and if they don't take it use peanut butter.

good luck!

It's been a long stressfull day today & now that all the ladies are back in there place for tonight, i hope things will be looking up in the morning....i'll be up early to report....hopefully not to beg for more advice....thanks for caring for a newb

I will get some pic's tomorrow if these bastards are still flyn' around & RubeGoldberg i really appreciate you helping with all 3 of my 'panic mode' questions...........so far i haven't noticed any stress to the plants, but i'll be sure to watch....

Thanks again everyone....

so far so good ...

so far so good ...

Well it's been almost 2 day's & i haven't seen anything flying in the room.....feels like i may have been lucky & caught up with things before they got out of hand....sure hope there's no more suprises with this last crop of the season....

Thanks again everyone for being so kind with such fast responses

the fukers are hatching again....

the fukers are hatching again....

I've been stressing all day......again....

These aphids are back........the temps got up in the 80's inside today & damn if there wasn't hundreds of these bastards all over the floor & in the drip trays......most were dieing or near dead when i noticed, but there were still a lot crawling around on the dirt surface.....& some up on the plant/buds also.....

I fumigated again & sprayed the gals with neem......i sure hope i can get these plants finished & ripened with no adverse effects from these critters, or all the damn bug treatments/sprays....

If i can do a better job controln' the room temp & kill all that hatch/fly.....what will the damage be from the ones that are in my root structure?.....i've never had bugs in my dirt..so id' really appreciate any advice....

I took a pic today of the dead bugs in the drip tray....i'll post it tomorrow........

Thanks for any advice shared

Here is a pic from yesterday.....most of these bastards die in the drip tray's.....guess fumigating the room has some lasting effects, short lived as they may be....

any tips on what these fukers can do?

Would you really use that 3 weeks into flowering?

You want Bayer Fruit & Vegetable (Imidacloprid) and your aphids are gone after 2 applications..

That is what Merit 75 is. Merit is just a lot stronger concentration.. But from a quick search Imidacloprin is a systemic and not something you want to be using during flower..

i got them once during week 4 of bloom i just use ladybugs and botaniguard for the root system. i got 1000 lady bugs for like 7 bucks and they just died off when all the aphids were gone, and the botaniguard worked great in conjunction

Not totally convinced those are Root Aphids. The pic in post #10 almost looks like some kinda flying ant. They look too large to be RA.

But hey maybe I'm seeing a new strain of RA. Mine are small and the wings are different.

I can't blow that pic up to get a real good look at teh fuckers. Can you take a couple more shots...maybe a lil closer or in higher res? Cheers.

Thanks everyone for continuing to help......there's no grow shop around here or i would have already got some type of root drench....all i have is neem & i fumigated the room 2x(all plants removed).....im in like week 4-5 now & im keeping fingers crossed i can maintain for another 4-5wks....any idea if the depot or lowes sells anything worth looking into?

I also agree EastCoastMeds im not really sure what these bastards are either :dunno:....all i know is when my room gets above 80 they apear by the hundreds.....they must be hatching & coming out of the soil(promix & worm casting)....these are a first for me.....i will try & get some better pics if they appear again......my first thought was some kinda flyn ant, but then i thought aphids cause they seemed to be in my dirt/roots....

Thanks again everyone for helping
