Apartment Growing?

I've grown before*, but I had to pull the grow shortly after flowering started. I wasted some seeds at first due to shit drainage in my beer cups, but once I got that figured out the plants took off. I think I'll put in an order for some Mandala seeds as we get a bit closer to Christmas. The large volume of packages going through the mail system is reassuring.

A cabinet grow sounds like the way to do it. A 400w HPS cool tube inside a cabinet should make for a good grow. I'm split on hydro versus soil. Maybe I could do a couple soil grows and then buy the components to go hydro.

Thanks for the cabinet links. A carbon scrubber setup on the cab's exhaust should be fine if I keep the air flowing outside, right? Where I'm at currently is picking out a good design and then building it when I move out.

*I've got the pics locked up in a truecrypt file on a different computer. I'll post pics later today.

One thing I've never understood about those little cabs. Why don't the plants grow into the light? How short do you have to flower? I'm used to flowering at about 20 inches.

if you put a SCROG screen a foot or so above the soil you train the plant into it (only have to train for the first few weeks of flower)

my NGB cabinet setup can be easily used in an apt...but I would NEVER live in an apt. growing or not.

...thats just me...I've had the option before and chose to sleep in the back of my truck for a few months. (i'll never share a wall w/ anyone)

BTW...having a "locked cab" makes it YOUR private property and the landlord has no right to open it or look in it w/out a cop and a warrent.

the closet is not your property and they can open that at will....just keep that in mind.

pic of my closet..hehe

I have a question for NOKUY or anyone else. How much does the ambient temp rise in your room after all the hot air is exhausted out the cabinet? Do you use an window-AC or anything similar? Dehumidifier? And lastly, do you not have a carbon scrubber or am I just blind? I'm thinking the landlord can still call cops if he/she finds a locked cabinet with the smell permeating..

Those are some beautiful plants, NOKUY. I think that design is a bit more than I need to get into the hobby at first, but maybe someday... :rasta:

I was lucky enough to have central A/C when growing with a 400 watter and hence the ambient temps were kept constant with the air recirculating throughout the apartment. Otherwise having a window A/C in that room and running your lights at night will probably be a good idea.

a 150 watter - my smaller cabinet - was barely a blip on the room temps.

BTW a 150 watter is one of the best size lamps to get started with and to grow just for head - if you have a 150 and a separate clone/mom space you can harvest around 3oz every 2-3 month cycle.

my scrubbers are mounted on the back - I've used both the can2600 and can9000 on my 150 and 400 watt cabinets. I think nokuy has one somewhere in the setup too.

As for the landlord calling the cops - Understandably a large cabinet with a cord or two running into it and a fan noise plus balast hum and what not is going to be strange - and maybe he can even come back and enter with a cop and yes you'll be in trouble - however you've got a valid argument in court that the landlord or even the cop had no way to see inside the cabinet and could not reasonably determine that there were MJ plants inside- hopefully getting you off on illegal search.

edit2: and I really tend to think most landlords respect peoples privacy and as long as the cabinet is in your bedroom are not likely to go into the bedroom without you there. Beware when choosing a place of the former resident turned landlord/owner cause they will consider the place their's forever. Leasing companies can be much easier to deal w/IME.
