anyone running (2) 1000w adjust a wings in 4x8? shadowing help!!

I have a large adjust a wing reflector which I don't like because of the shadow in the middle when the wings are fully extended and as you pull them closer it seems to help but really it's just better or creates hot spots. I was curious if I ran two, would the neighboring light help cancel out the shadow? I have a spreader as well but hated it so much that I bought a raptor dual bulb hood for when I put my girls into bloom a while back.

I want to put the hood in my tent but I'm pretty sure it is far too heavy but thought I could build a beam inside for it to hang separate from the tent. However, I can run two 1000w bulbs in it and the light pattern is top notch but building everything sounds pretty exhausting at the moment, but it would be cheaper than purchasing a reflector/spreader combo which is highly important right now. if I were to run two bulbs in it, would that increase the light pattern so I could use that exclusively in the 4x8 tent?

the light pattern "advertised" is something like 5x7 ft but that was at a height of 6 ft for the adjust a wing large so I'm not too sure how to gauge this. it's really more like 4x4 tops. 3x3 works great.

the light pattern is not advertised for the raptor dual bulb but I found a PAR test using a similar Raptor reflector which says 5x5 but 4.5 ft looked more accurate and that was at a height of 24 inches. the 4.5 ft markers show similar PAR readings as the adjust a wings does at their second best points to give you an idea of quality or what ever.

I was hoping someone out there was running two 1000w adjust a wings side by side and if that helped with the shadow or any advice really on how I should set up the lights. they're in a sun hut big easy tent if that helps.

:thank you:

I am not sure exactly what you mean, but to use 2 x 1KW adjusta-wings in a 4'x8' space, have the 2 light bulb ends facing each other and angle the adjusta-wings down at the back so the back of the bulbs are slightly lower, thus giving an arc of light from each bulb, with the crossover in the middle from the 2 bulbs compensating for the reduced lumens in the middle. You will also have to move the reflectors back a bit, to give increased spacing between the bulbs, as otherwise behind the bulbs would be too shaded.

when you run one adjust a wing, when you look at the floor you will see a dark shadow in the middle so the light appears like a doughnut sorta. the best points of light are on the outside edges. when you adjust it so it's more narrow, this helps make the circle smaller but then creates hot spots. i thought if i ran one next to it, the light from the outer edges would shine on the shadow area thus giving it the amount of light it needs for even lighting across the tent. i don't want to go buy a second reflector if it's just going to be the same thing.

so i thought i could build a beam to hold the hood if that was a better option since it can burn two bulbs but now i don't think that would be best for equal light distribution.

i thought i would ask the community first before running off to purchase.

Back to the initial post. You're trying to decide if one hood with two bulbs is going to provide as good of distribution as two hoods with two lights?

If you set them up per instructions on the box... you shouldn't have this problem...install them the right way,,,,any pics?

this prob was mentioned a few months ago.
I think the *shadow* isn't a shadow at all,
I mean if you think about it, directly below the Awing your getting a 1000watts of direct NON-refected lite from the bulb right
I think the reflected lite is brighter from the reflection of the adjstawingz making a seem as if there's a dark spot in the middle

jack mayoffers aptus thread....he was running 40,000w grows using the AWs
he talked about how they slammed the lite down on the sides,
and where there was an over lap on the footprint from the Awing next to it,
plant growth in the overlap areas were phenomenal.
so these Awings can really thrown down the light on the sides/edge of the footprint,
so thew real advantage imho is using multiple Awingz in a larger gro.
another thing, I read the med and smaller model AWs don't have the *shadow" to the extent of the large one.
this is just my :2cents:

1 last thing, read the AW sites, and they don't use the reg specular alum most reflectors are made of.

scroll down to "the age of the super reflectors* section
excellent read on the material used in the AW reflector material and seems to back up my theory of the donut hole isn't darker,
the ring of reflected lite around the donut hole is brighter :smoke:

i was curious if running two 1000w bulbs in the raptor would increase the footprint so i could raise it higher and the canopy would get the same light as it would with one bulb but closer to the canopy. I'm not sure it would cover the full 8 ft though even running 2000w in one hood.

Gnome, thank you! i think this answered my question about the adjust a wings perfectly. also, the PAR tests on them show the medium reflector being much better than the large so that would make sense!

i don't have pics of how I'm setting it up as i haven't hung up lights yet. I've used this reflector though in the tent to light up a 4x4 area and adjusting the wings and angling the light seemed to help. also, the type of adjust a wing also influences the reflectivity with some saying a measly 88% depending on what it's made out of?!?! the avenger line showed the best specs if anyone is curious.

i was editing while you posted, read my last paragraph.
the avenger wings are very different from the cheepo knock offs because of the reflector material used.
I have 3 large AWs i plan to use in the next few months to upgrade my new bloom room.
when i ran em for a few weeks they realy slam the lite down on the edges like jack mayoffer was saying

good luck LLB :)

there is an cheap $37 ultra wing knock off that is super small but rated equal to the medium adjust a wing on the greners review. i thought that was interesting and i might go that route but i still have to see if people are complaining of shadows with that particular reflector.

this is what i was talking about but maybe I'm confused by the term cheap knock off :D

for the budget lines AW use a lower quality reflector.
get the top of the line,
if you read the last section of the link i gave you'll know why to spend the extra money for the avengers line :smoke:

you can see the shadows clearly in my pics in the thread i created a few weeks ago, also i confirmed it is less bright there using a lux meter.

the guy at the shop gave me one of these "super spreaders" to test out but i havent yet... its below the bulb, in my eyes that is blocking light.. i guess i will test it out one of these days... seems ridiculous i would have to buy this piece as well
