aka Old time radio? When I was a kid we used to receive AM radio signals at night time from high watt transmitters in Chicago about 600 miles away. One of my favorite radio shows was CBS Radio Mystery Theater that aired from 1974 to 1982 and was an attempted revival of the older years of OTR.

The sad part was CBS didnt think it was anything special so they never put any of them to master tapes so the only accessable copies are the ones that people taped from the radio. Remarkably people figured out it was special enough that all episodes were preserved in old audio tapes, some even with the old commercials that ran between the three acts of the story.

Not sure how "old" ur looking for.

I have tons of old school radio shows on cd (transferred from tape). Old school hip hop radio shows from WBLS, WRKS (Kiss Fm), WHBI, etc, etc, from the early 80's & on....I also have alot of old school hip hop shows from 1977 & on. Real hip hop stuff...not the junk that goes on now-a-days.

Also have old reggae concerts & some old rock concerts too but no radio shows of these.

As a kid I used to listen to that and many other OTR shows - my fave being "The Shadow." We lived in the Chicago area since '66 and I can remember going up to Michigan for vacations and late at night being able to get Chicago radio on my little transistor. Here's links to a bunch:

Guess we're showing our age...s'ok by me - it was great fun listening and I still catch them on public radio occasionally.

In college, we used to get together saturday night, get stoned and listen to the old shows on a station out of little rock, that we could only get late at night. Sit in the dark, staring up at glow in the dark stars on the ceiling, and using our imaginations to follow the story. Thanks for the memory.

imo there's no entertainment as good or as important (even more so today) than story telling. childhood lessons read by parents in guidance start the process, then of course we learn to read and can soon choose our own stories to read, mix in the huge push of music, TV, and net based media and you might realize that quality story telling the art of basic communication is nearly lost. Stories told round the campfire was a childhood favorite of mine, I get to enjoy that only once a year at a local festival that a story teller usually participates in.

The great thing about radio mystery theater was all the work they put into sound effects and voice work. Made the imagination part work a whole lot better. If you got 45 minutes to kill heres a couple of sites where you can click on a wide selection of shows.
