Anyone heard about the '12/12 direct from seed' method?

Hi guys

Anyone heard about this?

Seems we could all save a lot of costs (electricity + equipment).

When you are planning to veg your plants under 18 hrs of light for 3 to 4 weeks, it is in fact better to give the plants only 12 hrs of light.

I've heard about this method from Dutch growers that have had great succes with this. Also, your calyx to leaf ratio on the bud would go up.

Any takes on this?

Yes Landrace cultivars are better with 11/13 or even 10/14 :)

How long did the veg take on the Malawi? And the flowering?

Cheers

the Malawi gold was my 3rd ever grow about 12 years ago so I do not remember the veg time, but the flower time was 14 weeks. However I got some seeds from that grow and did them 11/13 from seed and they took 12 weeks that time

Some Strains are good for it. SSH 1 week after germ 12/12.
Shackzilla is the same with a good yield and so is female seeds Grapefruit.

A Dutch (SpeesCees) guy has written a couple articles on this method. For this method it's better to use between 20-25 plants per square meter. It's also better to use Sativa strains for this method. Also if you want to start a new round just germinate your seeds 3 weeks before harvest, keep this seedlings in the same room as the flowering flowers.

You germinate the seeds under fluorescent bulbs, these bulbs should be run from the same timer as the one that switches the HPS bulbs. You do this for 3 weeks after these weeks you can put them under a HPS bulb. Your plant will become one bud without side branches, this will save you a lot of time when you trim them.

Hi bro

I am aware of Spees Cees. But that is not at all the way I imagine full on 12/12 cycle should work. Germination under CFL or FL is a bad idea, especially when doing the 12/12 method. Cees idea is the SOG method, the sea of green. That's just piece of cake getting enough yield.

I'm taking about germinating 4 plants 12/12 under a 400W HPS and getting 400g (100g per plant).

Cheers

Hey Chakra ...I`ve seen a full on pheno hunt with 70 + seeds flipped directly 12/12 from seed with 2-600`s in a 4x6 area.....

Running 50 watts per sq ft and when the males showed they were removed and new fully rooted cuts were put in their place plus another 17 for a total of 87 plantlets to build the sideways canopy in a vertical setup , and although the room ended up pulling a lil over 4 lbs that was indeed well over 1 gram per watt , each plantlet only averaged 21 grams....that said....

Many autoflower strains will pull upwards of 1 oz per plant strain dependent and dialed , but for the life of me I can`t understand how anyone could build a 100 gram plant straight from seed , especially "under" a 400 watt fixture , much less 4 of em.....or am I missing something.....anyways....

Please come back and explain the method to your madness , so we all understand where you`re coming from......or was this just a question as to IF it`s possible , and to that I`d have to say absolutely not , but anything`s possible in this `ol world....

Peace....DHF.....:ying:.....

Hi dude

Thanks for your explanation.

I did a couple of runs direct 12/12 from seed.

1st time:
50 regular Blueberry
Between day 14 and day 21 the all showed sex
Around week 4, they started to get into flower.
First pheno was finished around week 9, last took 11 weeks to finish.
Used 2x 400W, all in 11l pots and got little over 30g per plant on average, totaling at 700g for 22 plants.
No training or topping techniques
No added nutrients
No amended soil

2nd time:
9 feminized plants, different genetics
11l containers, amended soil with mycorrhizal fungi and bacteria complex.
Used topping and fimming techniques + rotation and adaptable configuration.
Got just shy of 400g under 400W HPS in about 12 weeks. The Chronic x Powerplant were top yielders at 75 - 80g per plant. The Kush were the low side with 15-20g per plant.

3rd time:
4 regular plants in 11l containers, amended soil with mycorrhizal fungi and bacteria complex.
Strain was half 'outdoor' genetics. Purple Tops x Anesthesia. In 12 weeks, plants yielded about 100g per plant, getting about 400g total yield. No added nutrients, no boosters, no high stress techniques, just bending (low stress).

So this weren't really 'sea of green' grows, maybe exept for the first one.

So I do know it is possible, and even better than most 'conventional' grows I've seen. And I've seen quite a bit and trained dozens of growers myself and saw more than a hundred cultivation areas.

I even tried a 'micro-grow' 12/12 with a Hawaiian Snow and Super Silver Haze in the same 30l 'wine box' container under 150 PLL T5 CFL. SSH yielded about 20g in 12 weeks while the HS topped 80g at 13 weeks.
All seeds in all grows were planted directly in soil.

And as far as autoflowers go, most I've seen used more than 12hrs of light, but can get yields up to 100g per plant easily in 75 days in a relatively small container.
I've also grown autoflowers outdoors in a greenhouse that yielded 250-350 grams in 75-80 days. So building a plant in that short time frame is indeed possible.

So yeah, seems a lot is possible nowadays. But I wanted to be sure by asking you guys here at ICmag whether or not anyone has had the same experiences doing this 12/12 method.

I've also asked Ed, but I'm waiting on an answer from him.

What really strikes me with this '12/12' method is that the inflorescences seem to have a higher calyx to leaf ratio. So they look nicer and are almost effortless to trimm.

Cheers guys!

I just got a reply from Ed.

He said he uses the 12/12 method frequently to 'test' grow strains. He finds it to be a very efficient way of growing.

No thoughts on the high calyx to leaf ratio though..

Moby Dick from dinafem responded well to 12/12 from seed. Even managed to top it once. Got 116g off one plant but had 23g lost to mold so it ended up being 93g.
Currently running somango47 12/12 from seed x3 and Amnesia xxl auto x 1

Will post some pics as they develop if you like.
