i feed my dog nautra evo, by natura dog foods (55 % protein kibble) mixed with evo 95% beef wet food and add raw sardines (whole unprocessed) (1/4lb) per serving. she's a 1 yo female pitbull and she loves it, its a lot better to feed your dog a raw diet then say dry grocery store brand food...i say why not i treat myself to organic herb why not treat my dog to organic food. anyone else feed this way?

I feed my dogs and cats EVO venison, and wouldn't think of giving them anything but an organic/raw/holistic diet. They are carnivores and these mass-market grocery store brands are about the worst thing you could put into them, next to maybe straight up ACTUAL garbage. My babies will never eat anything with any byproducts or grain EVER.

The chihuahuas dont really like it as much as their old diet (they were my wife's dogs before we met and she fed them absolute shit, including table scraps), but both of my pitties have grown up on the stuff and they are healthier than any dogs I see in my neighborhood, vet's office, or dog park.

Yeah, taxi pretty much said it. I've had my dog on it for a few days now, i've seen a big increase in energy and the food I was feeding her before was mostly corn (pedigree, crap)

my mom swears by pedigree but i think that if she knew how crappy it was then she wouldn't use it... taxi, you should try adding whole un-processed sardines

buy bulk chicken thighs, rice, and add an egg and raw oats. i feed twice a week w organic kibble in between, has kept all my Bullies rock tight and on point, brilliant in mind and color, and long living. treat your dogs as well or better than yourself, and theyll reward you everyday in thankfulness and beauty. one, lime

I believe they call the diet BARF short for 'bones and raw food' the premise being..."When did the dog ever wake up wanting a bowl of cereal?" Of course part of the safety of this is how you're able to break the bone down into small enough pieces that'll make no problems for their digestive systems. I don't feed raw food to my dogs though. I boil down and soften the chicken bones then I mallet them into submission. They get meat & bones only twice a week in my house.

i COOK once a week for my dog, mixed meats chicken legs, cheep beef mince and lamb when its priced well cooked with rice and mixed frozen veg he seems to like it and doesnt get foul dog breath. towards the end of the week i start to mix cooked meats/ rice with raw beef mince. Is a pitty x of 8yo roughly 35kg feeding 800g to 1200g daily less if its raw.

My vet recomends horse, camel, kangaroo diets when we recently had skin irritation suspected beef intollarance from either smakos or dried dog biscuits.

I lived less than 1/8 mile from Mitch Seavey when I lived in Seward Alaska.

Lived there 2 years before He has WON the Iditarod, (sled dog race)...and don't even start on the 'iditarod is cruel to dogs bit'...i'll hand ya your ass on that!

his dogs are awesome....I helped care for their dogs quite a bit even.

anyway..on the food bit. I learned ALOT from the Seaveys about natural dog diets....tho I only supplement my dogs w/ natural food....they incorporated VERY LITTLE kibble.

Most of their dogs ate stews made daily in 55 gallon drums from moose meat scraps, marrow bones, rice, sum kibble, and salmon heads.

I brought them all their fish heads for months...they would deep freeze the heads and marrow bones after scooping them out of the stew, and feed them to the dogs as treats.

...seriously those dogs ate better than they did....the seavey's would eat cold moose steak sandwhiches w/ just mayo and american cheese all day...LOL

We WERE feeding our dachshund home cooked food, Mrs Fred would buy beef liver cook it mix it with brown rice and some fresh veggies, We fed her this for about 2 months, She loved it! Then she started to get constipated so after a week or two we went back to Kibbles and bits, She used to love a can of Mighty Dog but it got to the point when she refused to eat the mighty dog. So now she only eats Kibbles and Bits.

For the record, she will chew the hell out or your Rotties hind legs (When they are not looking!)

I have a BAD ASS Dachshund! :dueling:

That's it! B.A.R.F.! After researching the whole "Raw Food" diet, and all the different manufacturers ingredients and consulting the manufacturers at Dog shows I created my own diet. My dogs could not be any more healthy! All ingredients bought at the local market and health food store. I get most all the veggies and fruits from our local farmers market. Kibble is HORRIBLE for dogs. It actually creates and then feeds cancer in dogs. Shortens their life span dramatically as does it their quality of life. B.A.R.F. is highly recommended. Pre-made diets are available with all the same (similar) ingredients as mine. Found in your local pet stores freezer section, just defrost and serve. GREAT THREAD!!!

Raw is the Only Way

Raw is the Only Way

IMHO,the vast majority of commercial dog food that most owner's feed their dog's is junk, and will slowly over time, poison your pet. If you don't beleive me, read this:

Food Pets Die From

I only feed my dog raw food. There are now a lot of pet store's that carry raw food, so it's not hard to find. The better brands come pre-made, in frozen patties. Check to see that all meat's used come from government inspected sources, and are vaccine and hormone free. It should contain the proper ratio of organ meat, crushed bones and veggies. Some brands add salmon oil or certified organic hemp seed oil. Thses oil's are rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid's that aid in digestion.

Raw food is much more digestable and healthy for both dog's and cat's. My dog eats bison, salmon, chicken and rabbit. The energy burst's that my pet exhibit's after his meal's are incredible.

my good girls got bacon cheeseburgers last night (yeah, the lamb was too good to feed to them) mixed with kibble....... 2 Tbsp. of bacon grease, one 6 ounce burger chopped up hard & pan fried together, mix w/ kibble & then topped the bowls with grated cheddar cheese....... they never mentioned not getting any lamb.
