Not much luck in my search for predatory mites suitable for my climate. 90-105F and importantly, 15-30% RH. Has anyone seen predatory mites survive this? Under a microscope I mean-- not unconfirmed anecdotal stories. I understand plants have higher humidity within them but I can't find numbers so I'll be testing with a hygrometer today.
I compiled details about optimal conditions for different mites. Occidentalis would work but they don't target russet or broad and I believe they diapause soon But I forget.
Andersoni
(43-104°F) and the relative humidity is between 40-60%.
Swiirski
"*36.99*±*0.816°C for the upper threshold for population growth, and an optimum temperature of 30.1°C. "
"Mites develop between 18°C and 36°C at 60% relative humidity (Lee and Gillespie 2011).*"
Fallacis
Fallacis needs a relative humidity of over 50% to survive, particularly in the egg stage. In hot, dry conditions, raise the humidity by watering or misting plants.
californicus
warm (50° - 105°F) humid (40% - 80% RH) conditions, also tolerates low humidity
"Californicus is tolerant of various temperatures and low humidity, but works best under warm to hot conditions."
Cucumeris
66-80° F, 65-72%*
"*Optimum conditions are 68-77°F (20-25°C) with relative humidity of 66-70%.*"
Occidentalis
" prefers warm weather (80-110° F), tolerates dry conditions (<30% RH) "
This mite predator does best in warm weather (80° to 110° F) and prefers humidity 30% or less. In temperatures less than 80° F it may go into hibernation or slow down consumption of mites considerably.
