Anyone ever been to Tampa, Florida????

I'm considering relocating to the Tampa Bay area after grad school in a couple years. Any of you guys ever been or lived there? I would love to hear some personal opinions/experiences of the area. Any certain areas better than the others?

I was born there and lived there for many years. Guess it just depends on what exactly you're wanting to find there to answer the question of what areas are better.

You'll definitely find bugs anywhere in Florida, a few select "bad day" type critters too depending. Not sure what to really say on the subject.

The wife would like to go back and visit, and granted I can think of a ton of things we'd do, but in all honesty my heart just isn't there. I miss sailing around the islands, but anymore these days water traffic is just as bad if not worse than some city roads I can think of. The wife isn't a big fan of swimming though, so she'd be somewhat uncomfortable on a boat.

Don't get me wrong, its not at all a bad place but it does sort of fall back to yet another question, "What are you wanting to find there?" I asked that very question of my present location and found what I wanted and then some. Florida didn't have it and never will.... unless some sort of massive geographical cataclysm occurs or something.

There's some great food there though, plenty of sun and sand if you like that sort of thing. Tons of eye candy if you know what I mean, and it can be a very peaceful sort of existence, but that too is all depending upon what you make of it.

Well, I've live in the Midwest my entire life and I'm completely over it. My heart belongs to the beach. I also hate winter and don't mind humidity. I'm looking for something just outside the city... No more than a 40mn commute, and not a ridiculous cost of living. Looking for laid back and artsy I guess.

Sounds like you'll get a lot out of living in Florida then. Check out some smaller places too in the state. If you like fishing and such you'll be very happy indeed. Tampa is a pretty decent place if you're interested in the arts but I consider it more 'city life' than relaxing. But then again my idea of relaxation is total seclusion lol.

I will say that as far as good places to grow, Florida is a hell of a lot more conditioned for it than where I'm at. Good luck to you out there if you decide to go. :joint:

Thanks man. Given my profession I'll more than likely have to work in the city but willing to commute to a smaller town to live. Ever been to apollo beach?

i just moved there from way up north and even tho im loving the nice weather right about now. but the whole PLANT issue is terrible here, any little amount and your going back to the station. its a sketch place to grow for sure, living tho is on the easy. work isnt easy to find but at least time seems to slow down. like someone else said they like seclusion and thats what i seek too. its nice, warm, and quiet.

Yeah, not too thrilled about the politics there but it's no worse than where I am now. I'm definitely worried about finding a good job. I'll probably just rent a furnished apartment and do some hard core job hunting, then if it doesn't work out I'll try somewhere else. I wish Cali wasn't so expensive.

I know a few young professionals who live in Tampa and love it. I also know a few traveling professionals who have a real tough time there because there isn't much social outlets to 'meet new people'.

That being said, it's a fairly young city considering it's in Florida, so you might like it.

The weather is nice. The people suck. The beaches are nice...The mosquitoes suck..

I like going out on the boat fishing all the time(Saltwater)Might even go this weekend..So thats a plus for people still seeing snow..

It is a nice place for someone new..For someone that has lived here all his life it is pretty boring....

Tampa cops are DICKS! I have a love hate relationship with most of Florida. I like Tampa, but stay outta Orlando or WPB.. Miami sucks too, but south beach, the keys and many other beautiful destinations. I'm from Cali, and I must say I can't wait to move back.

Florida in general has very strict laws regarding weed. Over 20 grams is a felony. Over 25 plants is mandatory minimum 5 years. I love Sarasota, especially Siesta Key. Are you ready for ridiculous humidity and pretty intense heat almost year round? Just a few days ago it was 78-80 we just happen to be having a cold front right now(~60 degrees) :)

I lived there for 26 years and will never return south of Tallahassee. Just too many people. I lived in Fort Myers.....about 2 hours on 75 south on the Gulf Coast. Alot of the people that came in the last few years is the bottom of the barrel wash outs from up North. Just my 2 cents though.

Laws........very bad. And since all the Cubans and Mexicans are growing.......check the news blogs there. The Feds are on the look out for us.

Be well and good luck
