Anybody else watching Pipe Masters Pro Surf Contest ?

So far they have not had the best waves.

They had huge waves for 2 days of competition, with very few tubes ridden. Then the waves shifted too far to the North, so the swell didn't break right at Pipeline.

The wave has 2 parts, Pipeline (surfing to the left) and Backdoor (surfing to the right).


Anyway, it can be very entertaining when the stars align.

There is a 3 way competition for the World Title that makes it more interesting for we surf-obsessed sports fans

Was on the North Shore one year for the triple crown. Man, when the swell is pumping I wouldn't paddle out at rocky's let alone pipe. I mean, you can feel the waves pounding the reef from the highway. Major props to these guys. That takes some cajones to paddle out into some of that insane shit. One day the swell washed out the road all across the north shore it was so big, this was early to mid 2000's not too sure which year. We went up to a guys house in the hills above north shore and watched what looked like fleas droppin into huge outer reef waves. Turns out they were men! haha great times I'll tune in and see if anything comes together swell wise. Watched one prelim round where Kelly Slater had to surf thru the trials this one year and pipe was huge disorganized shore pound. So Kelly, on his last wave of the heat drops in regularfoot backside on the shorebreak on a hah-yooge reforming second reef wave and just got throttled deep barrel, then comes flying out of the tube switchfoot! He switched stance in the tube,I love it when guys can pull that off. I never have been able to.

I went twice this year an it was on standby.....got some good pics i can post up if ya want though. I hope to be able to handle pipe one day. Might go tomorrow if it's still going on, its on standby now.
