Any small time grower ideas on minor upgrades?

List of what I already have at disposal:


*400watt hps with reflector and ballast and globe
*Several cool flouro light attatchments
*One Closet with ventilation, 6 foot tall by 4 feet across, about 1.2 foot wide
*20littre heavy duty tub (previously used for dwc)
*3 air pumps not sure of power capabilities look like big fish tank ones with double air outlets on them.
*Chem and organic nutes, tds meter etc
*On 10amp (i think) 24hr timer plugs into the wall or socket

This is just a small fish type of grow, providing for 1-2 persons only.

Seeds comming with maybe a cutting or two...

Ideally would like one veg, one flower, and one clone cab...

So far only have one cab alternating veg and flower in it with a few clones being snipped and stored in the fridge when needed.

What extras do i need to buy/get/how would you upgrade this to something a little more oomph but on a sickness/unemployed type budget??
money is very tight need budget conscious growing additions/ideas.

I have interuptions ALOT and unfortunatly i feel stuck in the closet
otherwise i would bust out so to speak, but for now all i can think of is add a closet or two?

*Should i extend existing closet or get another seperate one or make one?

*Min space needed for veg and clone cabs approx for just to have a few cuttings say 3, and a mother plant in veg?

*how much flouro light in each different cab as a bare minimum for clone and veg.

*what time line should i operate on to have perpetual harvesting going on for one full time smoker that only needs about 1-2 ounce per month to smoke.

*should i have seperate buckets or stay with the 20littre tub,
bearing in mind im stuck in closets that only fit one tub in width lined side by side would probably only fit 3 tubs in there as opposed to the 20littre dwc tub...what would be better?


just a few thoughts on my mind any others ideas that may help you think my canna friends?

im trying to plan my future grow after i do a location move and would like to to a better job than in the past with my previous attempts

any ideas more than welcome

You might find a cabinet convenient for the mothers/veg area. The C13 style was most popular, but it's not being made any more; the C25 is the replacement.

I also saw a nice Rubbermaid storage cupboard that would make a good grow area. The walls are double-wall plastic that you can run hoses & lines through (and fill with foam insulation for sound & temp deadening). If you are growing in a bedroom or something, the C25 would be more stealth than the plastic Rubbermaid cupboard.

I opted to make my grow areas as tents - the frame is made of PVC pipe & fittings and the covers are Reflectix insulation. The Reflectix is a couple of layers of bubble wrap with layers of foil mylar; it reflects well and helps insulate the heat away from the walls. There is a link to detailed build instructions & photos in my signature block.

You can also build fairly stealth areas out of Rubbermaid storage tubs - I have examples of two I built in the "rubbermaid" link in my signature block.

This is what id do with what you've got....first off tho do you want to grow in soil or hydro? and how many watts are your flouros? and what length are they?
Id defo use another cab for your flowering with a 400 the size of the other bein only 1.2 foot i think would be quite inefficient for a 400 and would suit the flouros due to there length so you could split it and make your clone and mother cupboard...if you want a perpetual harvest and you are in hydro then small buckets would be a good idea..if you have 3 pumps with double outlets then six small buckets for flower would be ideal chopping would be down to finish time and timing it to whenever suits you, taking one to two plants every two-three weeks..depending on finish time etc...doing this you could veg for a short time in say your 20 litre container..just to get the roots down in the net pot and itno water then straight into the flower cab..
So id go root clones in cubes (you can do this with very small amount of light) then go into the net pots in your 20 litre tub give them one-two weeks lets the roots get down and then straight into flower..if you try and time everything to two weeks..e.g two weeks to root clones..then another two weeks veg..make some extras for mistakes you can allways chuck em if you dont need em do your harvest every two weeks(however many plants suits you) this way evrything is on a two week cycle..you see where im goin?
This is what id do with what youve got..just need another cab which im sure you could make very easily or find a nice cheap cupboard..hope these ideas help ya mate..peace

The light fitting can take any watt flouro in them as far as i know its just a point of buying some of the small screw in types.

I would prefer to stay with hydro/soiless instead of going back to soil i feel im better out of dirt in terms of better ph and nute control...

what length are wot mate? the light fittings? they are only a plug in the wall one end and a socket the other end, thats all they are like a lamp but without its base, just the cord and socket. about half a dozen of those laying around here somewhere...

So let me get this right im stoned ahaha
you reckon use the existing flower cab i have now for the mother and clones? even if im not using those long flouro fittings just the screw ones?

Thats brilliant news, 6 plants should keep me able to pull enough for a few ounces per months

After thinking about it, i'll add another closet, maybe two, bigger ones and use the existing one for veg and mother like Dr D suggested.

Hey Rod i thought you meant the long strip light flouros..but by the sounds of it the ones you have are ideall...you can fit em into pretty much any space.so thats cool..good luck mate..im just about to set-up a new flower room myself, should be fun....peace

Rod, casa dePOT has these cheapo cabs for $50 that would be perfect for moms and clones or a couple of flowering plants. It's almost 70" tall X 20" deep X 29" wide. 1 shelf at top & clothes rod.
