I will be visiting phoenix in a couple weeks for the weekend but i have no idea what to do down there, never been there before, and to be honest cant imagine much.

My dad wants to see the SF giants spring training camps, but couldnt find anyone to go with him so i obliged. Aside from the training camps, we want to find cool places to go, good food places, nature, views.

Some ideas i had are

1. i want to find a really good burger or steak place where the locals dine.
2. Do they got any outdoor shooting ranges where i can rent AK-47s or other assault rifles?? i realllllly want to fire an automatic weapon because they are illegal in california.
3. We will have a rental car so we can drive out of the city to visit any crazy places like canyons or desert views.

Hit me with some ideas!

call the local police dept once you get there, tell them you're
in town for the weekend & you want to know which places to
stay away from, there ya go the most fun in town.......

stay away from joe arpaio unless you like living in a tent in the desert between deadly tasings.

phoenix is mostly characterless sprawl with
some ritzy neighborhoods here and there, some
worth driving by.
I'd check out cave creek, north of phoenix some.
it has retained some ambience.
The "Satisfied Frog" and "Buffalo chip"restaurants
have great burgers.

There are some great, not too long, hill hikes around
the metro area. Camelback mountain and pinnacle peak
are two good ones. I'd head into the mountains and
beat the heat. Sedona is a good choice even though its uber touristy.
