any of you you pot heads know anything about installing high speed internet?

hola.

i have a stupid problem. i've been growing since i bought my house, 14 years or so ago. after i started the best hobby ever, high speed internet came to my neighborhood. i tried to hook up by myself through the local cable company and through quest. both services did not work and both said that they thought there was something wrong with my wiring and that they would have to come in and see what's up. i do have cable tv. well, 10 years or so later i still have a fucking dail up because of the hobby and my inability to not have a grow going. i believe i was told that they may have to check every cable outlet or was it phone outlet? anyway, there are 4 of them in the house and the flower room is right next to one. his nose would be at the door.

any idea what the problem might be or what the service person might have to do???

i REALLY want high speed internet and digital cable. apparently they have moving pictures on this internet thing. :)

i am going to harvest in about 3 weeks, another 1.5 to 2 weeks to put into jars and that would be the perfect window to get them in hear to hook me up. i will have about 30 clones going but i'm going to stick them into some double thick garbage bags and do something with them. maybe my outdoor storage closet.

howdy.

i wasn't expecting a response so fast. my gf came over, got high and left.

i had all the equipment for both the cable company and the quest internet access . it was simple to set up. both time i had the cable company on the phone and both times they basically said, huh, everything should be fine.

thanks

if you are trying to run the modem off a cable line, you must make sure you dont have older cable run in your house.
you need atleast rg6 cable to handle a modem.
if the wiring is older, you might have rg59, which will not handle high speed.
it also depends on how many splitters you have before you modem hookup.
splitters cause signal loss, you need a direct line, in most cases, to the modem.
hope this helps

howdy frank. i'll bet that's it. the house was built in like 1986 or so and the cable is probably that old.

do you mean that they will have to go through the whole house to rewire??? i don't know if i could handle that. i hate strangers wandering around my home. you know how you can put a pipe or something incriminating somewhere and see it so often that it kinda disappears? that could lead to trouble! :) OR does this mean that they can just bring in some cable from outside and just lay it along the wall where i tell them?????? that would be perfect.

i'm not sure what splitters are but the cable runs from the outside it passes the dining room connection into the spare bedroom connection. i had the cable company people out here. they checked out what they could outside then said they needed to come in. i didn't mind but my 18 oz of almost dry bud didn't want to be disturbed.

i'm contacting the cable company now to see what kind of wiring i currently have.

on second thought, i had the cable company come in and hook me up and lay the tv cable when i first moved in. that was like 1993 or 94. i assume that means that it's an older cable.

can i just ask them to give me 30 feet of cable and go away?

sounds like a plan. i'm writing them an email now. i want to upgrade every thing i can at one time.

this dail up is killing me. i want to see a movie on line like normal people!! :)

i'm off to search. later!

howdy JJ. i have a tv cable modem.

i had an internet modem but after tech support couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work, they sent out a tech to check the outside cable (or something). i sent the modem back. currently, i do not have a modem for the internet connection. i just decided that since my current batch was about ready, now would be the time to plan this.

I have just written to them asking what i need to do and can i do it myself.

thanks for trying to help. what i know about techie stuff could fit in a bong bowl.

Fatboy, listen to JJ. He's making things real basic for you. If you have a cable modem, then plug the fucking thing into the wall, and connect the cable wire. Were not talking about a digital cable box, were talking internet modem.

Usually they're like 4-6 x 4-6 inches in size and relatively thin, like a few inches.

If you plug everything in, you should see a solid "cable" light and maybe another light or two, if you do let us know what you see.

I doubt it's the computer, unless it's a real hunk of shit from like the early 90's you'll be fine.

Take JJ's advise and don't pay the jerkoffs to come out and tell you nothing was wrong, you just smoke to much herb. It's an incredibly simple process.

hi guys.

i have a newer computer. that's not the problem. like i said, i had all the equipment to get high speed internet from cox cable. i hooked it up and it didn't work. i had tech support on the phone and they could not figure out why it didn't work. they then sent a tech who checked something outside and said that that was fine.

as soon as i harvest in 3 weeks or so, i will start the process again, get the high speed stuff and see what's up.

as i said before, i also tried the quest high speed internet. same problem. i got the equipment, set it up and nada. called tech support, they could not figure out why it didn't work and they too wanted to come out. i know everything was set up correctly because, again, i had the tech support people who walked me through the whole thing. maybe my house is cursed?????

and yes, i do smoke too much reefer. thank god for small favors eh!! :)
