Any info/suggestions on the 'Cage'?

Hey all,
I'm seriously considering taking the plunge into vertical gardening, and am looking for some help here. I'm thinking about running a Cage vertical system with 3 600watt lamps + cool tube setup. Anyone have experience with the Cage? I'm looking for info like medium used, ease of maintance/setup/upkeep, yields, etc. I would be using a single cola, indica-dom strain and hopefully want to run it in two cycles... Take care y'all.

I looked at it hard a couple of months ago and the hydro store guy talked me out of it in favor of the "mini colisium" or "producer". Both he claims work better than the cage for ease of use and results.

this site willl give you the correct info... look at the pdf files

i have used the cage and coli.......... the cage is easier for clean up, planting and uses less watts. no need to run 3x600, 4 x250 works perfect...... if you want to run 3 x 600, i would suggest the cube....... i have also used the cube and it works great...... the cage has the best gram per watt yeilder..... the cube yeilds the most...... and the coli is a big headache.......

the cage works great with hydrotron........ if you use cannazyme or sensizyme you can reuse the media and only have to remove the big roots....
i use the cage as a recircular system...... 30 gallons of nuits a week......water 2 minutes every 4 hours. the cube can be ran the same way...... while the coli likes coco media an watered drain to waste once a day..... cleanup really sux for the coli and once the canopy fill up you cant eve get in ther to look for hermies, mold ect.........

using the cage or cube, you can use zip ties around the tubes, to hold the pants in position a when thy gain weight,

i can answer any question you have......

Thanks D, great info

I can see where profit margins might dictate a salesmans recommendations more than the actual product.

Can you grow with the cube in a 4'x4'x9' space or does the res and other support items require a bigger foot print?

(3) 400's, I guess would be an option also?

What about the heat? does it just rise out the top or do you need to have a fan top and bottom?

Thanks again

no prob TK..... the cage should fit but the cube's inside dem is 4 x 4....... the cage and cube both have built in reseviors........ 400s do work good but gets a little hot..... but my best yeild is from the 250s..... i use a small house fan on the botom of the cage and the heat goes out the top....... a cool tube set up would be best........... i use AC in the room as well...... don't think i would need the ac with a cool tube set up......... next year i will go with a cool tube in my cage for sure.

D,
Thanks for the suggestions and info, it really helps. 4 250s with a cool tube sounds like the way to go then...

Did you mix your 250s with HPS and MH?

Do you completely remove the hydroton for the next cycle, or leave it in and just pull the big roots?

Have you tried perlite/vermiculite?

Thanks again for the help...I'm super stoned right now :yummy: and am sure I'll have more questions...

thanks much,

Is it necessary to put a secondary cage like out of chicken wire or something to keep the plants off of the cooltubes or anything like that?

Tex.....accually you can use zip ties to attach the plant stalks to the cage tubes..... it pulls the plants back away from the lights nicely............. i do this using 250's and 400's with a small fan underneath the lights.......

yes top is 250mh next 250hps net 25mh last 250hps

i shake the tubes while the media is wet up and down hitting the bottom on a rubbermade which catches the rocks.......... i do 2 or 3 tubes like this until they're empty....then i use a gerdeners fork to reomve the big roots.....take like 5 minutes to remove most of the roots.......then replant the media and plants in the tubes..... besure to use cannazyme or 1/2 strength sensizyme 2 in your nuites prevent root rot and turn the small amount fo roots left in the rock into sugars.........

Have you tried perlite/vermiculite?

no i don't like that stuff
but coco and large perlite would work ok

Hey hope no one minds me reviving an old thread but this seemed like a fitting spot to ask. Hopefully DrawOH or someone with similar knowledge can help me out...

This is going to be first cage run and I would rather not have to purchase new ballasts and bulbs. Are 2 or 3 600w in a cool tube going to fry everything? Should I bite the bullet now and get 4 250w or can I get away with the 600s? I have never used a cooltube but it seems likie those bulbs are going to be awfully close to the ladies.

I also have a 12,000 btu A/C I can run in conjunction but i am more worried (i think) about the actual light distance (burn and bleaching) than ambient temp problems.

Strain will most likely be a pretty tough bubba kush.

Thanks for the input and help.

peace

PS - where are the best deals online for cooltubes?

How were your yields off the collusium? How do the two compare in price?

I could see how it would be easier to work on the cage since you can reach the plants without opening up the system.

Anyone have a collusium for sale? lol

bump

Any input re my prev question of 2-3x 600w burning plants in cage? invest in 250w now or go for 600w?

thanks!

im already comminted to 600's so i would go for a cube setup with 2 600's... i wonder if the cube or a similar setup would fit inside a standard HydroHUt..

one more bump for jesus

A tidbit I forgot to include. There will be the 450ish cfm 6" vortex at the top of the cool tube.

I guess I will just cross my fingers and go for 3x 600s and see how hot it is after setup.

peace.
