There could be hope. If it got completely submerged and wet on the inside you should first remove the batteries and then try to rinse it out with RO water, by dipping it in a glass of RO water, then replacing the water and repeating a few times. This is to wash the salts out. Finish with a couple of dips in distilled water. Then let it get completely dry and insert fresh batteries.

Some electronics will be fine after they get wet, some not. Cheap stuff tends to break easily, my ipod, on the other hand, has survived a full wash and spin drying cycle in a washing machine...

I like kal's idea first. After that consider it doesn't take too many cheapies to equal the price of a waterproof Bluelab. 99.44% pure, it floats.
