Any Geeks On The Board??

programmers, web designers, etc? I can't be the only one.

I'm a python programmer, and web designer -- and a hardcore geek :joint:. My distro of choice is OpenSuse. hmmm...the last thing I programmed was a AIM brute forcer & a http form brute forcer

hopefully this geek thread doesn't go horribly wrong and I end up with a wedgie :badday:

I was a programmer until my first semester of college. I had to quit or I would have lost my sanity. I still dabble from time to time but I consider my geek-ness to be more associated with video games, board games, and anime.

did coding for 2 years in high school, all soph year i finally learned c++ and that was right before java became the new language to learn. great, so i get to learn a new language junior year! got frustrated as hell and quit completely. takin programming I later in college just for fun and have flashbacks constantly of huge headaches staring at the screen trying to figure out why the hell it wont compile! java is a whole other animal compared to c++.

Computer Science and Sociology graduate.

I prefer OS X (or osx86 ;)), but my linux distro of choice is Ubuntu (currently running mythtv). I'm a java programmer, but I am also a LAMP expert :)

The last thing I programmed was a multi-threaded WEP key brute force attacker, but I was stoned before I started writing it and didn't figure in the time complexity of 30 or so nested for-loops. I also didn't calculate at worst case how long it would take to hack if it were the last key generated. But anyways, the WEP.txt file I made was running upwards of 9 gigabytes and it wasn't even 1% done generating weps. LOL.

My bad. The program was multithreaded with buffered textfile writing (separate thread) it was able to run on both cores of my cpu that way, with one thread handling IO and one thread handling WEP generation :)

Don't flame me too much. :) My wireless card did not support injection so I couldn't use the typical airsnort suite to crack.

I can't talk about what I do at work because I signed a NDA :)

I'm learning C++ at the moment. I'm trying to teach myself at home whist doing business studies A levels and trying to learn how to use Photoshop properly.
I also want to learn PHP but I can't find a good resource to learn from, and I've been invited to start MMA by the local martial arts guy, I have a lot going on!

currently im learning XML and XHTML in the local JC to re-program this mess into a modern program/CRM tool.

Digitalhippy, windows server?!?! is that a joke?! LINUX -- NOW!
and wise choice about the domain and such. I wouldn't put that information out on ic since -- with enough resources ;) -- one could possibly gather more personal information about you

Yeah i'm an undercover geek.

I started with the Commodore VIC20, back when you had to write out all the code, actually write your game lol. Or tape drives, slow ass modem for surfing BBS'.

Graduated to Commodore 64, then a Win box running 3.1.

I still have those Commodore's, great machines, damn pricey at the time.
Just when personal computers were starting off I guess.

I have seen some of that. It is pretty good. My favorites include Samurai Champloo, Bleach, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Haruhi is good to watch baked. :joint:

Samurai Champloo is beautiful.

Nuff said.

Does anyone else find that pot keeps u sane when you're buggin about some abstract concept?

I don't like to code without it. Too stressful. Plus it makes me a tiny bit lazier. Lazier isn't always the worst thing. I think more and type less. I usually end up with very clear, concise, and tiny classes, mainly because I want to maximize workage and minimize backspace-age.
