Any fellow producers?

Que's la que, fellow tokers and keyboard pokers, any of you fine growers also cultivate the sonic arts?

I myself am a producer. Real, as in i can make the same beat twice and i was classically trained, i'm not just pressing buttons at random(and yeah, i've had to redo WHOLE projects... crashes suck).

I must admit right now i just use fruity loops, because in my neck of the woods that's the standard(i'm from a place very much related to a certain caribbean rythm) but i learned with my friends setup, a wall full of vinyl, a turntable, a mixer and and mpc-60II.

My main art is hip hop and reggaeton, but i take it to the limits. With hip hop it's cool, cause there are mainstream trip hop and eclectic hip hop acts, but with reggaeton, which is dominated by "dembows"(kinda like riddims, only it's just the drums) that haven't changed in years, anything that sounds a lil bit off formula is considered trash, but slowly i've been gaining more leeway in how weird i'm allowed to get without getting booed, hehe.

Right now I have some acts and I'm known, but considering most of what i do is completely in contrast with the necessities of commercial reggaeton, and the MCs that have approached me to produce for them don't cowtow to s*it mongers either, we've stayed low key. kinda cultish.

Luckily, people are starting to come around, and since one weird "b-side" style song isn't gonna hurt anyone, some acts with radio time have started shopping around my tracks. Soon as the first royalty check comes in, i'm buying myself a bunch of vinyl, a turntable and one or two synths. :-D

I'm in this just for the helluvit and because i want to spread a certain message, i think selling a couple tracks to big acts or maybe even becoming a mainstream act aren't bad things, but i still dont' care if i never make it big. i just want money for more equipment anyways, hehe. maybe a few new lights too, haha.

well, i'm getting rantish, so bye, haha. post up your setups or your experiences in this crazy track we call life.

keep the phones on your head and the fader in your hand....

yea we make beats...we use fruity loops vst...vsti all software...mix it down in able ton....i myself make more breaks sped up to fast BPMs i tend to really go off the deep end with my breaks, synth stabs, sub bass noise, dsp crazy ness etc etc..but in recent years ive kinda stoppped making music...i come from the FLP 2.5 days, were on flp what now?? last version i had was 6 pro studio(love the buzz machines support)

FL is now a whole production suite, you can even easily record vocals with it. but it's made sh*t too easy, i think. it's gotten to the point where you don't even need to know about tuning and BPMs to make a song :-S

CM you can download the demo from the site, but there are pirate copies everywhere, bit torrent sites would have it. You can also check out buzz its completely free, its a little harder to figure out but there are tutorials on the buzz web site and the buzz machines and effects are compatable with FLP. FL's is definitely fun good luck

just out of curiosity: how is it one likes hip hop and reggeaton at the same time?
unless what you mean by hip hop is not hip hop at all of course...

i am laughing my ass off looking at my sticker that has the venezuelan anti-drugs mottos and logos, but it was changed to say: for a venezuela free of reggeaton

:biglaugh:

I'm a producer as well. Still see myself as an amateur though started around 2006. I produce mainly ambient, goa, steppers, dub, dubstep, and some ambient dnb.
Using FL 7 and a lot of vsti's. Purchased Native Instruments Kore some time ago but it sucks ass and doesn't work decently :cuss: .

Check my smoke report thread in my sig. I post my tunes over there too.

I've done production for bands for a while. Not in terms of programming beats and such, but in terms of handling the recording process, arrangement, production of the recording and mixing process. Been considering trying to make a living from it, as difficult as that can be.

that's because i don't REALLY like reggaeton... i just have a head on my shoulders and i know how to use it for business. hehe.

Just because i love making music doesn't mean i can't make a buck off it...

EDIT: oh, and also, if you heard my reggaeton... you'd understand how i can reconcile both tastes...

and i started out with a ska band, but i just gave up on trying to reconcile the sound in my head with the motions my hand made, haha. plus, i'm too schizo about how i like the stuff in my head to come out to let some asswipe "improv" off key.

btw, i'm not antisocial, it's just this moron had a PA and a studio, but he didn't know crap about musical ability, but thought he was a guitar god. I wanted to leave his bitch ass, the rest of the band(because of his moeny and connections) thought otherwise, so i just walked out, taking their whole musical repertoir with me, bwahahahahahaha. who knows... maybe we would have had success(ska is still big in latin america)

Not a fan of reggaeton, I grew up in Miami, graduated from the Commerical Music program at MDC. Easy beats to make in Fruity Loops. I started messing with loops, other than DJing, on Fruity Loops. Now I am on a Mac, using Ableton and Serato mostly!

Hey Papa, you from MIA also?
