I saw the Drummers thread, so i thought i'd ask?


Some of the best hip-hop happened in the early 80's b-boying in the late seventies turned into breaking in the 80's, some of the best b-boy anthems & breaks however happened pre 80. Turntablism came after the 80 's, the next area of technical achievment from the pionerring hip-hop and scratch dj's.
The indoor growing takeover and Indica, were happening simoultaneosly within the first and second generation of hip hop and perhaps the 3 to 6 generation of b-boying/breaking.

hey cannaisseurbis....i used to BBOY, its fun and it keeps u in shape. I am currently movin back to CA. I havent went to any events in about 2 years. But when i was bboyin i would go to events like freestyle session, and bboy summit. My friends in cali, still do it and they enter competitions.

I used to dance along time ago..i would like to start again in 07. Keeps you healthy and agile like u said. I keep on the tables though..for sure.
Been spinning since the early 80's. Hey ha ha B-Boy Summit,, i went to the show the year when they had the riots down in venice. Last show i saw was KRS at some dive joint early this year, but that man can still seriously throw down. He is stilll OG despite some of his later day joints..True Hip Hop Legend all the way. There were only 100 people or so there, so that made it even better. 2 LA breakers showed up do dance for him...shit was incredible.
Most of the new shit from kids these days is wack, sorry to say.

ya man BBoy summit is pretty tight, The La breakers are still doing there thing. They are dope as hell. They usually go by the name "killafornia" now when they enter events. you can do a search on u tube. They got some tight clips on them. I am moving back to cali this coming tuesday> i got the Uhaul ready and am going to roll a few joints for the drive i cant wait!

I spin Hip Hop. I just bought (replaced the one got stollen) a new Vestax PMC-08 today. Should be coming in the mail before chirstmas, cant wait, its a great unit. I love Primo too. I saw Gangstarr in concert in '99 and '00 and saw Guru two months ago. I wasnt too happy with the last album, hope the next one knocks. peace_Highst

Use to spin, but sold my stuff years ago for cash. Had a set of tech's and a pioneer mixer. Use to spin hip hop, trance, house, old school rock, whatever.

Yeah Guru and Premiere are still dope, always will be. It's hard
getting old i guess when it comes to the studio though..not everything is gonna be fresh.

cant wait to get the 08 in the mail. It pisses me off to have to buy the same mixer twice in six months bc someone stole the other set-up (2 techs w/ cases, 08, studio monitors, needles, etc). Good thing my records were't stollen. You just cant replace that. That is years of time and money. Good thing I had a successful summer bc I was able to afford to replace the equipement

I read a story in SCRATCH magazine where Mix Master Mike had his entire record collection burned in a fire. I'm talking 20+ years of collecting, you know that guys collection is DEEP, I mean super DEEP. Material possesions shouldn't be that important, but if that were me, I would feel like my soul was ripped out of my body.

i just got some tables and a mixer from my friend. soooooo fun. im having some trouble mixing, but freestyle scratching and sampling is fun, even though i still kinda suck at it

I am a turntablist myself, though I would revive this thread. I am on Technic 1210s and using Serato on a mac. I also use Ableton Live! Wondering if there are some DJ's around here since the last post 3 years ago!
