Get your med card...don't have one and you will be the first one getting raided...doesn't matter if you are "donating" it our not...

wart, do what dude said, go there and check it out. You may not even like it if you like the bay area...
Agreed. In cali get your med card and just grow 6 big plants at a time. pretty safe.

Why would anyone want to move to Cali? It's the closest thing to an anti american state there is.

you talking about the corruption? i think its a fairly smart move since farmers are getting old and not much new generation farmers are stepping in.. plus all the nutrition and organic industries are out there so it would be more sensible to move toward your career no?

anyway i dont think i want to me in humboldt.. yet at least. im thinking i might just move to a town outside of sac, meet some growers and maybe help out on a farm, or just start small like hash zepplin stated with 5 or 6 just to get my feet wet.. thats really all i would need anyway. one plants harvest would probably last me two years lol. all of this would happen assuming i would have my med card that is.

more input or suggestions are welcome.:)

So me and the fam are moving up to Northern Cali in the future and I have a couple questions regarding growing.

Let me first say I am not growing to sell. I grow eight plants at a time, and it's all personal. I have no interest in selling, cashing in, whatever you want to call it. I still want to stay discreet and grow indoors. I have my own means of income and don't need to sell to maintain my style of living. In short...I will not be entering the market as a buyer or seller. I am Switzerland.

My target is farther north than Humboldt (without getting too specific). My question is, north of Humboldt...how are the counties or local LEO with growing. I do still plan on staying discreet, but for the "just in case", I'd like to know how locals feel about growing. I know Humboldt's story and assume I would be fine there. I just don't know anything in this regard for anything North of that (Siskiyou, Modoc, DelNorte counties etc). I've searched and can't find anything either here or any other site. I might entertain the idea of getting a card if need be, but I doubt I'll even do that.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi. I know it's been a while since you posted, but I think I can help answer some of your questions, even though I'm not extremely familiar with our state in its entirety. Generally the rural/agricultural counties of California have a very strong tendency to be 'red', they're generally religious people and are strongly conservative. Some are ok with weed, but a lot are not and will cite federal law as the reason to keep it illegal.

Sacramento areas, even though relatively heavily populated, along with Orange County, were the cornerstone of the Proposition 8 movement, so that should give you an idea of what the rest of the state is like. Generally, I think it's safe to say that it's only the highly urbanized/populated areas that seem to determine what happens for the rest of the state, and often those laws are diametrically opposed to what folks in the rural areas prefer.

Do NOT get an ID card. If you get the card, you are voluntarily limiting yourself to 12 immature and 6 mature. But, guess what. The moment you know the sex of a plant, it's mature. So if you clone, you can only keep 6 cuts. Stay to just the doctor's recommendation (often erroneously called a prescription--it is *not* a prescription, a doctor cannot prescribe a given amount per day or time period, and cannabis cannot easily be titrated) and you'll be fine. If that doctor starts discussing limits, walk out, that doctor isn't up on the law.

I'm in an unfriendly county and I *only* limit my plant count according to my needs. Because I smoke a lot of weed, I can support my numbers. And that's what it's really about at this time. Just get a recommendation and leave it at that, and that is my (and my attorney's) best advice. Keep it on the down low, and don't put yourself onto a government list. Certainly the ID card does *not* protect you from arrest, this much is for sure.

God, guns and gays, man.

yup....do not under any circumstances get the state issued ID card...a doctors rec is all you need.

cali has a reputation in the USA as being full of liberal know it all progressives who favor communist policies and are anti american...and this is somewhat true...but NOT in rural california. only in the cities do you see Obama bumper stickers and deal with people afraid of guns.. once you hit the country you start seeing more teaparty stickers and regular old lifted truck driving whiteboys.....most of rural northern california is very similar to midwest and southern united states we just have nicer weather lol...

warthogg....check out chico state. the word out here lately is that humbolt is a warzone right now...more and more people are fleeing to the butte/plumas/nevada county side of the valley since the DEA and other police agencies are cruisin mendo/humbolt tough....you can still setup shop nicely in mendo/humbolt but its gonna cost 2x more than where im at in butte county...

chico state is a big party town too so lots of girls and booze to let off steam and meet people during the off season...and most good growing spots are only an hour away from campus....plus its just cheaper out here for a very prime growing climate, we dont have the morning fogs like the pacific coast does....and most grows are at a nice elevation and somewhat secluded...good pot comes out of the buttes!

I have spent some time in Santa Cruz with friends before and I really loved it but I find California in general just to expensive I think that is the only thing that keeps me away from it...and the earthquakes, not big on that either.

How hard is it to unload the excess meds you have to dispensaries in CA? I have heard from a buddy that there is so much there that it is very hard to dispose of any extra due to so much quantity. Is this true? Has anyone been able to find a place that would even give you the time of day? Any Info would be greatly appreciated.

SWT, have you been reading the news? Anyone still planning on coming to California to make a living growing and selling weed to dispensaries is in for an exceedingly rude awakening. The hammer is dropping.

There are several articles that are flying around the canna-boards, the big one is focused on the new announcement by the feds (Melinda Haag) that they're going after dispensaries. They have flat out stated that dispensaries are nothing but a cover-up for drug dealing and they're gonna shut 'em down.

The article that's been completely dismissed by the folks on canna-boards is the one announcing the state appellate court ruling stating that cities can NOT permit dispensaries in an attempt to regulate them. They can limit them, they can outlaw them, but they may not permit them. Long Beach just lost this battle, but if I recall it was stated in the last article I read that the city is planning on taking it to federal court.

I need a minute....

K, whole Google search for Feds target pot dispensaries.

State appellate court finds cities cannot permit dispensaries.
^^^ THIS is the really bad one, but it's being ignored, perhaps even poo-pooed. It's a STATE court finding against STATE law (Prop 215 specifically says part of its purpose is to encourage government to create safe access for patients) in favor of the federal stance. It was a UNANIMOUS decision, too.

How bad does everyone want to live here now that it's rained for the first two weeks of October?

those articles dont seem like anything to serious... dosent this kind of stuff always happen at the end of the season anyway? seems like a way to just control the over abundence of crop coming in at the end of the season. from what i got out of it the laws still seem flexible and not set in stone yet. i guess we will see what happens huh?

IMO nothing is going to happen to the dispensary scene in CA. Most owners I have talked to, are going to keep on keeping on.

Empty threats, to take the focus off the shit storm of F&F. Eric Holder won't even be the Attorney General in another couple of weeks.

Even if some dispensaries are shut down , it will be done to set an example, the sheer logistics of going after ALL the dispensaries in CA, is just too much. Funding is not there. Especially in a state that is as bad off as CA is.

Even if the dispensaries are shut down, then patient to patient transfers will start to spike, and if anything net more money to the grower.

Just my prediction. Doesn't really matter, as there will be a new president in 2012.
