Got a bit of a situation here, so I'll try to be as brief as possible in the hope someone may have some words of wisdom for me.
First off, this is happening in U.K. So, bear that in mind pls!

Right, I recently bought my first home after to many years of renting, so obviously moved all my grow equipment in. It's just over 4 months since we moved in, and today we recieved our first electricity bill. I nearly died when I opened it! 3x what I usually pay! and I haven't changed a thing with my set-up.
Now my dilema is how to go about correcting this? Do I contact the electric company, and hope there's been a mistake? or could there be an error with the meter?
This has really got me klucking, as I'm worried such a huge bill will draw unwanted attention.

Thanks guys

i know alot of people in my area w/a certain elect co.,are getting outrageouse bills also..ours is higher than normal and i dont run crap, but our renters on the other side of town,is gettig a bill of 250.00 electric and a 400.00 power adjustment, due to hurricanes, and the price to run there power plant,it runs on deisel power, and the diesel fuel went up alot,so the customers are getting crazy bills that are higher than there rent...they pay 200.00 a month rent, and have a 600.00 elect bill, and thats wide spread in that area...check to see what amount of kw's you used in the month, and how much per kw,thats how ours works, they usually check around the 20th of the month, and bill us a couple days later......they might just be more expensive ,if its a differant power co. than you had b-4......good luck.....

Mine rose over $100/month with no extra useage by us. Electric, like gas for the car, was once an incidental cost. Now it's a large item in the personal budget. A sign of the times, I guess.

In an unrelated story, Exxon made a record profit last year of $32 billion dollars.

Where I am at in the US they tend to estimate bills in the winter time rather than acually reading the meter. Then in the spring time they do what is called an adjustment. And alot of the times when you first move into a home your estimate may be based on a previous tenants usage

BOOM. Right there, call your power company and see if they have a system like this...

Cheers guys, panic over!
Seems the elec co made a balls up. The initial reading on the bill is from over a year ago when the previous owner had the meter changed, not the reading taken on the day we took occupancy :woohoo:

I was gutted when I thought I may have to abort my ECSD grow due to financial
reasons, but now I can direct my energys where they belong :canabis:

Yea what Gypsy said  A mate of mine used to run a commercial op in Bristol & had it all on key meters. It's quite handy cause you end up knowing every petrol station in town, which is good when you're after midnight munchies :biglaugh:

Cheers guys
Key meters sound interesting for sure, but now the mystery of the £650 bill has been solved there's not a problem. What pisses me off is the fact the power company sent the bill, when they seemed to know the error once questioned! Lucky I saw the thing before the direct debit kicked in!
