Springtails have a furcula and a retinaculum which are the two structures that give springtails their name. The furcula is forked and it folds under the abdomen of the springtail. The forked end locks onto the retinaculum (which looks like a peg on the abdomen)and the spring is 'locked and loaded'. When a springtail is threatened the furcula releases from the retinaculum and propels the springtail away from the threat.

If you have enough magnification available roll the suspect onto its back and look for the furcula.

That's a roach. They like to hide under the pots and go into the holes in the container. 😎
